Problems After Front Suspension Work - Need Some HELP!

Toss those aftermarket LCAs and bushings and either go with Toyota oe, LCAs and bushings or just replace the bushings with the poly ones listed in the post above. I had this issue, and spent three week's chasing it, spending almost north of $800 to solve the problem, turns out a $60 set of bushings fixed it. Do a sear h for my alignment issues, I had... I almost sold the truck over it.

Trust me it's next on my to do list...

Funny you mention selling the truck - I was so angry after I wrenched on it for 3 days doing all that work that the thought crossed my mind too.

When you replace the bushings, keep us posted. I read it was a very difficult task. That was why I shied away originally and opted for complete lowers. I'll do the same, but I am going to have to live with it for a little while until I line up transportation to work while the 4runner is under the knife.

I have the same problem. I'm going to get new LCA bushings and another alignment. Hopefully that takes care of the problem.

I'm not the smartest guy in the world about this stuff but I am about to tear into my suspension for the first time this upcoming week so this intrigues me. As I read through your thread here I would not discount that you seem to have blown both your CV joint boots at what seems like the same time. If your suspension issue caused this because of angle after the lift that may also be a problem.
I am about to replace my LBJs and torsion bar bushings amongst all the shocks and springs, is it possible wherever you got your LBJs they gave you the wrong set? Maybe for a 2WD truck?
I ordered all my parts from Camelback Toyota and it was still a problem getting the correct parts sent to me. Don't get me wrong Jorge at Camelback was great but I have a 2000 Sport T4R however my VIN checks out as a SR5 T4R with 15 in wheels instead of the 16in star wheels that came new with my truck. So bottom line we had to "fake" the system and get the parts for a Limited T4R to get the correct suspension parts. This maybe your problem with the LCA since those are the components that set the general camber position of the wheels. If the off brand you got is a different size then what your rig came with. Did you place them side by side and measure the difference? If you don't have significant pull to one side and just a camber issue while driving straight then your LCAs are too short. This would also make sense for problems with turning as the incorrect size would cause the wheels to turn at a different rate.
You asked for ideas that is what I would check.

The joints weren't blown, the boots just cracked open. From what I understand from reading a myriad of other threads, this is fairly common when 15 year old cv boots are stretched by a lift.

I will go back and double check my part numbers when I get home now that you bring that up, but I am pretty sure I double checked all the part numbers when the box came in just to be sure. I think I also ordered from Camelback. I was concerned about getting the right ones because I knew there would be no way for me to tell other than double checking the part numbers.

I did not measure the arms before I put them on --- because I had to cut the OE one out with a grinder as a result of seized cam bolts. Measuring was not an option unfortunately.

You may be right about the arm lengths though. If I can find some used OE ones, I am going to go that route and replace the bushings with new ones before they go on.

If anyone else get the aftermarket ones pulled off before me maybe they can get a measurement on them. I still have my drivers side LCA that I can compare it to.

All that said, I think the bushings are the more likely suspect based on the replies above, but I won't rule out undersized LCAs.

Thanks for the thoughts!

You are probably right about the bushings. I just went back to the parts lists and there are 2 sets of LCAs for 4WD 4Runners, one for 15in wheels and the other for 16in wheels, just more info for you to consider.

If the image came through there are 2 sets of numbers for item 11.

Dude. That is awesome to hear.

Did you do the bushing install yourself? How did it go? Any tips?

I read many a thread that described replacing the bushings as a near impossible task.

Thanks for the update!

Thanks for the update.

One question, did you use an aftermarket (Dorman) LCA or did you use OEM ones?

I still need to do this.

I purchased a used set from a forum member and returned the Autozone LCAs... Bushings from Whiteline they're quality bushings you'll notice the difference even with the alignment out of spec

As far as the install they were easy to remove by heating the collar with a torch and pounding them out ... The new bushings went in pretty easily I used a large socket that fit perfectly over the neck of the bushing and tapped them in I believe it was a 2 1/4" I'm not at work to confirm

Gotcha. Let us know what socket size you useed if you dont mind. I assume by tapping it in you mean with a 2lbs sledge hammer or something similar?

I need to get those bushings ordered and then hunt down some Toyota LCAs and trash these crap aftermarket ones I got.

I wish I could remember which socket I used... I'm thinking it might have been 1 7/8" now that I'm looking in my toolbox. Unfortunately the old bushings are long gone, so I can't verify. I used a large dead blow... Not a hammer... I didn't want to to chance bending the bushing sleeve

Good to hear that solved the problem. If possible, could you post your alignment specs? I want to give the shop that does mine something to shoot for.

Toe and Camber are set to factory spec... Caster I have set to 1.5 degrees to retain some tire clearance, but I'm still in the testing phase. The rig drives fine even with caster in that range

how about they shoot for factory spec... just an idea

I know what you are saying but they usually go by "this will work" or "it worked that one" I want to write it down and give it to them. Then see how close they can get it.
