Problems/Issues with the 2014 4runner

um open the door silly it gives you more room to step up (<---- LOL jk).... those are the same ole standard boards on all the 10 - 13 models as well.

I solve that by opening the door, and putting my foot on the RB longwise, grab the steering wheel and hoisting myself in.

Getting out, I put my heel on it to step out. Not the best, but it works.
NoDak what RB is that? a dealer add-on? since toyota's web site only lists the automatics for the LE, I didn't know there was another choice.

I'd prefer to find a way to make the SR5/TE RBs work, but .....

those are the R6 option running boards. the TE comes with the KH option running boards, and the SR5 can come with the R6 or KH boards.

the LE's can only install the R6 due to the rocker panel that the SR5 and TE dont have. SE toyota region gets a different version of the R6 running board that has angled ends with no black end caps.

for those looking to get the LE with the rounded black corners running boards with chrome strip, be advised that the width of the board is not sufficient. the rocker panel impedes placement compare to the TE and SR5 where there is a gap that would let you snuggle your foot in for an extra 1-2 inches.

at this point the running boards are more cosmetic than functional in my opinion. the Warden has already slipped her foot off trying to get in the other night.

example attached.

.
Why do you need running boards on a T4R, heh? I tought you Nort Dakotans were tuff, heh?

cause they are always putting down fresh oil/tar to seal roads. the running boards cut down on the amount that sticks to the lower doors. :)

Up in canada the gas tabs have been removed and most places will turn off the pump if your vehicle is running

That's what happens when people don't pay attention in school. That same line of thinking reared its ugly head a few years ago when people went around saying that cell phones would ignite gasoline while refueling. :|

Then again, I don't go to the gas station and expect the guy behind the glass booth to understand things like Brownian motion, fourriere squares of a wave, and so on.

That's when the gas cap itself comes to good use. Engage the handle and slide the gas cap in there and...wallah...you're free to get back in the car until the tank is full.

short of replacing the Limited's side trim, cheaper ways to try are as follows:
1.) study the RB's bracket to see if new holes can be drilled a few more inches away from the trim so the RB itself can be correspondingly moved a few inches further away from the side trim.
2.) find a local welding shop that can make new brackets that will extend further away from the side trim so the RBs will be more usable.
3.) look into 3rd party RBs that are wider than the current OEM RBs of the limited.
4.) Looks like the Trail oem RB is wider assuming it can be made to fit on the limited, perhaps with modified brackets at a local welding shop.
here's another proof that the trail oem RB fits on the SR5. photo from a canadian poster: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/152016-2014-4runner-owner-pictures-17.html#post1555945

I'm not sure if I'm hearing all the noise from the brake as I have permanent ear ringing. . For sure, I hear a 'click' or a 'tick' sound when I press the brake pedal on my 2014 SR5. is this the same sound thats normal on the 5th generation ?? Thanks

The noise you hear when pushing on the brake pedal is common to all 5th Gens and is part of the panic bake application "feature". Do a search and you'll find many posts about the squish sound. Hit the brake pedal quickly and you'll find out about the panic break application feature.

I would suspect what you are hearing with the gas cap removed when the engine is running is the fuel returning to the tank from the fuel pump. Modern fuel injected engines maintain constant fuel pressure using a pressure regulator and relief valve that returns fuel to the tank. The tank is also slightly pressurized which is sensed by the system and will cause a trouble code if the cap is not tight (part of the vapor recovery system). You'll also hear a sound coming from the rear of the vehicle after it has been turned off for a short period (also can be found with a search of this forum) which is part of the vapor recovery system).

on the 2014's the abs/ba engagement is hell of a lot more dampened that the older gen's. you can barely hear it cycle or feel it.

One noise is when you push on the brake pedal. It's a soft sound, somewhere between a whistle, a whoosh, and a scrape. Occurs just when you begin to press the pedal and lasts maybe a second. The brakes are working fine.

My '08 SE has made this noise since the day I bought it. I've heard other cars do it so I never had a second thought about it. :suspicious:

Yeah I know was hoping someone else viewing on this thread had that so I could have an idea how to fix it. Thought I was done with the driveline vibes when I traded I the tacoma, it drove off the lot with vibes.

The sound I am referring to that is common to all 5th gens is the squishing sound, like stepping on a wet sponge. With permanent ear ringing you may not be able to hear it.

The only two problems I've run into so far is rattle on passenger side dash area only over small bumps or crappy roads the other issue is way to much bass lack or treble in Bluetooth audio and pandora.

Vehicle: 2014 4Runner TE w/KDSS

I'm new to a 4Runner so maybe this isn't actually an issue and how it's supposed to be but it seems when I turn left with any speed, maybe some small bumps, there seems to be quite the rattle somewhere in/under the vehicle. It seems to be a big rattle as far as parts under the vehicle.

I have not experienced this at any other times besides taking left turns with any speed.

Thoughts?

The other problem I have run into is water in the tail lights. Took the runner in to be looked at and they think the clicking sound was from a defective sunvisor clip and because the water was present in the tail lights they are ordering replacements. If anyone else is running into the tail light problem take photos of the water (while the water is still there, the sun dried out most of mine) and take it in to the dealer. I seems to be a common problem on the new tail light design for 14. Just an FYI

Not normal. I would head back to the dealer and let them figure it out.
