Programming 04 4runner keyless remote

I have a 2003 4Runner SR5, ordered a replacement remote online, followed the original instructions and can't get 6a and 6b to work. When I press the lock and unlock buttons for 1.5 seconds, then the lock button for 2 seconds, the doors lock and unlock twice, indicating the remote was not accepted. Our original remote still works fine.
Any ideas besides exchanging the replacement remote?

I have a 2015 4runner and I have the key programmed but I can't seem to get the remote programmed. I've tried the steps listed in this thread but I never hear/see the locks activate then unlock to go into programming mode.

Is there a different procedure for the 2015 model?

Thanks to R.A.! This is the best of the site being able to share money-saving tips. Got the keys from Amazon, cut at Ace, followed the steps and now I have two more sets of keys and an old remote programmed for a few bucks. Cheers

Does anyone know how to reprogram the FOB to remotely start the car. My factory FOB started the car by pressing the unlock button four times. Now after reprogramming the FOB it locks and unlocks the doors. My wife lost my only other key so I ordered new chipped keys but was not able to reprogram the new keys unless I erased the original key (mine) and started over. Now I have three good keys that start the engine but my remote FOB does not remotely start the truck. I tried using the procedure here but it only worked for doors and not the remote start. There must be a way to reprogram for starting the truck?

SO a pal bought a used 4th gen didnt come with a keyless, so nothing to compare with to know the correct FCC ID.

So guys I'm having issue programming my new and existing key fob to my 2005 4runner as well. I tried the steps you guys listed and no luck. I have tried several times. Now my old key fob wont work. I tried resetting the codes with 5 key turns but it doesn't seem to reset it for me. I tried everything but the key fobs wont work! Also when attempting to program the new fob and failed, my 4runner alarm/panic mode just kick it for no reason and the only way to shut it off was to reattempt the program. Did I do something wrong to cause that alarm/panic mode? So frustrating! Please HELP!

Just programmed two key fobs for my son's 2005 T4R SR5. Worked like a charm. Now I can work on getting the Viper alarm out of it and I can ditch the Viper remotes it came with. Those are crap.

Ok so I am posting this with a level 10 of frustration ...

I had a keyfob working (2004 model) fine - got a spare from ebay. Couldnt get it to program and read through this thread... got the locks to click twice so thought the memory was full.
I went through prohibition mode and cleared the fobs.... fine right.

Nope. Now I cant even get the one previously working to work right even though it does CLICK ONCE to indicate successful programming. None of the buttons work. I have gone through it half a dozen times in both program, rewrite and prohibition and back again. Same result each time. 1 click = success supposedly.

What does happen that is strange is that after about 30 secs when I leave the car, no matter what the security system of the car horn goes off.

The only way to stop the beeping is to put in the key in ignition and turn on to silence it. This cycle will go over and over setting off the security if I leave the key out for a short time. The only way I can make the truck be quiet longer than 30 secs is to go through prohibition mode to clear everything and it sits quiet in my driveway.... but no keyfobs. The minute I program the previously working keyfob the security system goes bonkers after 20 secs so after key leaves ignition and the keyfob wont work either.

What the heck is going on with this conflict between the programming of the keyfob (that previously worked fine, mind you) and this security breach that is causing the horn to go off unless the car is has the key in the ignition!?!?!

Next day. No answers ...

All codes have been erased in Prohibition mode in order that the security system doesnt trigger and the truck doesnt keep honking .. so annoying.

If I program my keyfob properly, does anyone know why the horn security system in the truck keeps going off ?? It doesnt like the previously working keyfob in its memory for some reason and the security system keeps tripping after about 30 secs of removing the key from ignition.

second cry for help. does anyone understand the security system enough to know why this is happening?

For closure, I went out just now (after the car was driven last night around town and then sat all night) and got in and programmed the original remote. It worked this time.

No clue why its working today. Hope someone finds these three posts semi-entertaining - especially if it happens to them!!!!
