proj: "Headers" using stock tundra Exh Manifolds w/supercharger

NOTE: I am looking for factory 4runner V8 exhaust manifolds to gut cats!!!

If you check my sig, I have an '04 with a TRD supercharger and have not blown up yet. I have already rebuilt the factory Y-pipe and gotten rid of the third cat. I also fabed an intake pipe utilizing the factory air box. I am a factory certified technician and build fast cars.

I am having knocking issues galore even with plugs that are 2 steps colder than stock and running 91oct fuel. I have an O2 wideband meter I have been meening to put on in order to determin if it is fuel or timing.

Unfortunately since we have our cats on our exh manifolds I cant quite get the sensor in a good location. So, I am going to use stock tundra manifolds to eliminate the cats and hope to find out why I am knocking and fix my shit and make more power of cores.

AEM is going to release a new fuel timing piggyback controller that I am getting a prototype of to test.

Any questions, input or comments is welcome.

How much boost are you pushing? If its factory pulley for the S/C then I'll assume 5-6 psi. Doesn't seem like enough boost to run lean enough to ping, but I bet its leaning out anyway because you're not getting enough fuel and the engine can't compensate for that as much as it can the timing, that's just a guess though. Hopefully this isn't the case because you know what that means if it is: super high EGT's...

Good luck, keep us posted.

you could find someone with a scantool and plug it into the OBDII port and see what is going on. My buddy has one and we use it to monitor the O2 readings and timing. I bet it is a fuel issue since the TRD PG and Toyota ECM tends to retard when there are ping issues. It could be the TRD PG itself, since "we" the corolla forum have experienced problems with the TRD PG on our little 4-bangers that was only corrected bu slapping on an injector controller for our fifth injector.

The other issue one of our members had surprisingly was he was running two heat ranges colder and when he switched to the proper IK20 Denso for the Corolla or the IK22 for our FI'ed V8 it stopped pinging.
