Project f100 : Rebuilding my stepdads pickup

Very cool. I'm coveting the idea of a classic pickup. I wonder if it's harder to find parts (aftermarket/ performance, etc) for the f100 compared to c10s. What you think?
There is definitely a greater , cheaper, surplus of chevy parts, but its not difficult to find ford parts. There are some great parts catalogs that supply most if not everything you may need. LMC truck, Dennis carpenter , to name a couple that I am using. Chevy would also be easier in the engine build since they didn't have many changes to their engine as compared to Ford. But its definitely very easy to get Ford aftermarket performance parts.

Awesome project. My dad had had a '67 that I drove through high school that he got from my grandfather - it was in the family from around 1980 to about 2000 when it was sold to one of my dad's co-workers.

Yes a big job to dive into, but I got all the right friends to help me out. Everything is progressing although taking longer than expected, which was expected. And thank you.

Saw an old episode of Fast n Loud last night... they did a 69 F100 in 2 weeks! So what's the hold up? :lmao:

Anyway, here's a :bump2: for more updates!

HAHA, ya i don't have a full time team on it lol. Finally got all the body work and metal work done, Hoping to get the cab into the spray booth this week.

I have to comment so I can find this again. My sons friend bought a nice looking 68 4x4 F100 mostly already done or so he thought. His transmission just went bad. I feel sorry for him. He's only 16. It's manual and I'm not sure if he can swap with a more modern junk yard truck. I think it has the 390 All my son knows is "the big motor." He's definitely out of money.

It will come out better anyways. They seem to be more about putting lipstick on a pig.

I don't mean to derail this thread but thought I would pass this along.

A swap with a newer transmission is certainly doable but usually not cheap. His truck probably has either the NP-435 or T-18 transmission. Both are good transmissions. I would have him check the clutch linkage, as they do wear out and I have even lost part of mine on the trail and almost had to walk out because of it. On the T-18's, there's a pin on the shifter assembly that wears out, breaks, falls out, etc. The cheap fix for that is to find a new pin and drill the other side of the shifter assembly.

As for the engine, most of those trucks came with a 352 or 360 ci. V8. I don't believe any 4x4's came with a 390 but back in those days you could pretty much order any combination you wanted. If it's a real 390 truck, the 4th digit in the vin will be different, IIRC, it will be an "H". It's virtually impossible to correctly identify the FE engine without completely disassembling it and measuring the bore and stroke as most FE blocks had "352" stamped on them.
