Offroad capabilities?

um... if I am reading all the GX and a V8 4R debates correctly and that their underpinnings are indeed the same (despite some available options), then can you say that they:

1/ same rig with different trim?
2/ same offroad proudness and capabilities?
3/ can share most parts?
4/ have same chassis?
5/ can both be called a Land Cruiser?
6/ can both be called a 4Runner/Surf?

i'd much rather have four wheeler's version of the GX than a standard one. It also shows who truely uses a suv for what it is designed for. My landrover is an O5' and has winch, rack, lights,mt's,
and more people should mod out luxury suv's

Not quite sure with # 5 and 6. The GX's brother is the Land Cruiser Prado, while the 4Runner is only it's cousin. ;):

i agree with rx900. they are no way alike except for the engine. But this topic has been debated over some period of time now....and it clearly states that they are both different.

I know that you keep on saying this...but do you have any proof?? If not, then please stop saying this...it will confuse new members.

The 4runner frame is the same as GX. The V8's powertrain and drivetrain are the same as GX with the exception that GX gets the transfer case lever while 4runner has the electronic dial. Same engine. Same transmission. The suspension design is the same with the exception that the GX has trick electronic shock absorbers (for comfy and sport settings) and a few GX with KDSS (trick electronic sway bars). Same axle. Same control arms. Same skidplates. Same underbody design.

The only thing that is significantly different between GX and 4runner is the body, interior, and luxury options.

GX, Prado, 4runner, and FJ Cruiser all share many stuff. The 4runner is different because the body was designed for the US market. Everything underneath the skin is pretty much the same as Prado and GX470 (with the exceptions noted above).

Ok Thai, I will back you up on this one. The GX, 4Runner, Prado 4 door and to some level the new Tacoma all share the same platform. The Prado 2 door and new FJ use a the same platform shorten. I compared the GX and 4Runner for months before my wife decided she liked the interior of the GX better. You could take the GX body and put it on a V8 4Runner.
