Proper Rigid LED Lights..

Expedition Lighting Systems heard makes very nice products. Although it seems as if they are out of business

What a shame. Looks like they were pumping out some nice lights. Any more suggestions for decent light bar companies?

I'm surprised high-end Chinese flashlight companies (Nitecore, Fenix, etc) haven't thrown their hat in the ring.

I've got an Avec as well. Its stupid bright. I had condensation in the first one, and they did a replacement with no charge to me as it should be. The only issue was the down time. So far so good on the new one. Let's hope it stays that way. I paid $215 for a 37" single row from them.

I've been looking at a 30" AVEC for mine. $300 for their CR/ Optic series.

One of the big differentiators beyond light output/ optics (optics are important) is the IP rating. Typically you'll pay a little more for IP68 rated lights, but they don't fog as much, if at all. Condensation is what typically kills the cheaper lights, causes burnt out LED's. Thats what is steering me towards the CR series AVEC's anyway... the water intrusion rating (IP).

To the OP, do you plan on selling your PIAA's?
Cause I know a guy... LOL...

I'm interested in hearing from you guys on this as well. I'm just looking for some smaller driving lights as my head lights are horrible.

I'm not sure what's legal though, heard so many different things.

I was looking at these LAMPHUS CRUIZER as they are super cheap and look solidly built.

Could i use these on the road without cops pulling me over?

I have seen those on a truck where I live and he drives around with them on all the time. For how cheap they are them see fairly decent.

I am hoping to get away from the round eye look. I mean the Piaas are fine lights and provide a lot of light... The Main problem is that on my Bumper the Piaas have to be aimed down because they are a tad too big and when aimed higher up(not to blind oncoming traffic) The Cross bar on the bumper gets in the way. Currently, I have the lights as high up as I can get them without blinding anyone and without seeing the shadow of the cross bar in the beam- which does come in contact with the lights and STILL manage to get a semi decent beam in front of me.I did go with what the company recommended

The lights you are lusting after are something like I have never seen before.. They look like something like you would see on a Dakar rally car! I mean traveling at 90+ mph in the woods... man you need light and the lights you picked out are just the ticket!

I am still looking around for a more cost effective Bar... perhaps I WAS talking out of my Bum when I decided that I need a $900 light bar.
Don't forget the extra cost of renting a rabid pit-bull with an awful attitude to sit in front of the truck so no one gets any silly ideas... I mean there is only so much security hardware can do.

Are you wanting to go to an LED bar because you're tired of the "bug eye" look of your PIAA's...or is it your PIAA's don't put out enough light and you're wanting something brighter?

The reason I ask is....if you're wanting crazy bright light....and don't mind staying with 7" round lights...then go with ARB's new LED 21 Intensity lights. As with anything that has ARB's name on it...they're expensive (roughly $500 per-light) but also, if it has ARB's name on it....you know it's going to be of high quality, built to last, and do what it's suppose to!! You can go to Utube and see how frickin bright these lights are. Talk about turning night into day....Wow...these lights will do it !! They come in a flood light and a spot light.

Anyway...that's what I'm saving my pennies up for. If you're going to do it...you might as well do it right the first time!!! I hope this helps you Sir...


Edit: Wow...I started looking around ARB's web site...they now have 32 Intensity LED. These bad boys are 9.5" round LED's. At the bottom of the page...they have a Utube video using two lights...just incredible how bright these are. Oh yeah...bigger means more money...around $750 per-light...ouch!!

Sorry, I really can't help you out with an LED light bar. I too have a ShrockWorks front bumper. I originally started looking at light bars, but decided to go for the old school look and use round lights. But before coming to this conclusion...all my research on the light bars pointed me to use Rigid.

If you are still thinking of using Rigid lights...I did find a dealer over on Tacomaworld that has the very best price on their lights. I thought I had him bookmark, but didn't see him just now. If you want his info, let me know and I'll take the time and look him up for you.

I have had rigid duallys on my truck for a couple of years now and they are great. But recently i bought some of the 6 led cubes from bean led (their version of rigid D2s). They are definitely brighter than the rigids at about half the cost. While rigid is better than most others, they are not several hundred dollars better.

It would seem that We have good taste in bumpers too... Those ARB'S are beyond bright!! I have a buddy who lives down that way... says they come in handy when out in the Bush.

I have to figure out what model Light I want and then make a decision. I like the old skool look too.. but I think it might be time for a change. I also have a buddy who does not have much money he said he would take my Piaas off my hands... I might even be able to get him to take the ambers too.. Thanks for the help... if I do this I'll most likely go with a local dealer who did a lot of the work on my truck.. he always cuts me some sort of a deal..

I spoke to one of the guys over at Shockworks today he was telling me about the Duallys in place of the Ambers I have.. he suggested that I stay with the Piaa ambers .. said the Duallys are a lot smaller and don't give off the same amount of light

Hey thank you for posting your rig. I now have a better understanding what you were talking about as far as the 7" light hitting the cross bar. I might go with some kinda 6" round light now. I don't want the same problem you're having. I guess there's a good reason so many guys are running the LED light bars...lol!!

Your a good man by buying your lights through your local dealer. I should do that more...I guess if I ever found a good guy to deal with, I would.

When I spoke to Shockworks today they sent me a photo to further explain what I was talking about. That's not a rigid light it's just something they had in the shop.

I haven't had experience with piaa so he might be right. I was really just saying that if you decide to buy new lights don't feel like you have to buy rigid or baja designs. Plenty of other companies make very comparable products without the high cost. If you were to replace your ambers I would suggest going with a 6 led pod like a dually-d2 rather than the original 4 led dually.

We don't get an awful lotta fog around here but I like to be prepared for it.. Most folks around here run white or very bright lights. I have not seen LED ambers before. As I understand it it's not the color of the light it's the pattern which determines it's job. I'll take your advice. I do like the Amber 6pod

Check out Hanning LED's. They have light bars with white / orange LED combos. I have been running their 30inch single row 10w light bar and couldn't be happier.

I just got back from the Shop... and as I was looking over the lights... I had a gander in the work area... I saw 2 rapters, rapture(well -whatever that ford truck) again, I did some quick math I counted a $2k bill just In lights... on one truck.. and a small mountain of empty rigid boxes... I hope it's a show truck or something.. It seems that when people buy these lights they buy em by the Gross..

Well here are pics of my current light bar setup (Hanning 30inch single row light bar). I was thinking of adding a 40inch roof mounted light bar in the near future but after trying out my buddy's 50inch roof light bar setup on his Dodge Ram I decided against it. It just light up the whole interior which made it hard to properly see outside at night and I adjusted the angle at which my bar is mounted and it works perfectly.

You will love your bumper... I get compliments all the time about it. I am not happy about the weight- but what can I do about that? How long did they say it would take them to get I t all welded up and to you?

Glad you are happy with yours, I am stoked. 4 months...pretty typical from what I have seen. I don't mind much as it has allowed me to space out some other purchases...winch, lights and such.

I am interested to see what you come up with. I am hoping the ddm Hids in the piaas will help out and complement my headlights...like you I was originally looking for a LED bar up front but I can't justify the cash right now. My LS460 mod was fun as was the rigid bar I stuffed in my scoop but they put a serious dent in the piggy bank. They do give me tons of light though...but is there ever really enough? Guess I am a bit addicted...

I think when I ordered mine it was 6 months almost to the week. I was visiting friends in Reno then my way to Japan . so I was away for a month or so.
It was worth the wait. it's good that you can space out the purchases like that. Good thinking.

It would seem that you are indeed going about this the proper way. I think your DDM HID'S will absolutely compliment and help out your Headlights I still love my Piaa's.. They give out plenty of light... I just never was in love with the round look. I should have done a bit more research. At that time When I started spec'ing out the job I was never in love with the round look but that is where I come from I hated the square look even more. This was the time when the Light bars came on the scene. Rigid was the first one that i remember seeing... and who was spending that kinda money on a light bar? So Piaa was the Natural choice for me.
