Proximity key + locking doors while running

Any way to jump out of the truck while its running and lock the doors while you quickly run in somewhere?
I noticed that it beeps at you if you get out with the key while still running and the remote buttons and door handle contacts dont seem to function. Sales guy said something about it working with the second key? Can anyone verify that?


My Ram does this and its very handy, especially if I have the dogs in the truck in summer/winter.

I just use the mechanical key (key fob, limited) to lock the doors while the truck is warming up or I'm making quick purchase somewhere, Rgds

Not that I am aware of, it's specifically designed to prevent you from locking your key inside of the vehicle should you were absent minded and forget to take it with you.

Seems you can use the mechanical key to lock the keys in the vehicle which makes some sense since it would sense that lock cylinder being turned and know you can get back inside.

IIRC, you can actually lock only the driver's door with just one twist of the driver's door key or all four doors if turned twice; not quite sure about that but I think that's what it did... it's been a while (limited w/Smart key, not sure if this applies to all models)!

I don't remember how that works as I don't use that function too often. But I imagine it would be in the Owner's Manual and if you could change it, under the "Customization" section of the Owner's Manual?

I just get out and remote start as I'm walking inside and it's running when I return, don't need to worry about locking etc. my 5 year old really appreciates it when I pick her up and it's freezing outside!

Just FYI--- If you ever jack up the front or rear of the truck, make sure your keys are not it in. It WILL lock all by itself whether your keys are in it or not. ( Ive done this twice)

The Ram just checks for the fob inside the truck when it locks. If the fob is detected inside it chirps the horn and the doors unlock. Seems simple enough. Too bad Toyota's system doesn't do this.

I'd be willing to carry both fobs with me if I was able to use the other to lock the truck while running. Just not sure if that actually works.

So thinking about this further, since I can't find any way to get the system to work the way I would like, is it possible to get a regular mechanical key cut? I carry around the extra mechanical key on my key chain just for this reason, but its a real pain to use as its so small and tough to grip and turn when inserted fully into the lock.
