Why did you swap the 4.30 gears out of the rear and make it all 4.10?

I'm guessing it's because the rear diff would have cost you more? I don't think it's because you have a rear diff lock, because I think they were all 4.30. ...and if you have a rear diff lock, why would you swap it out? Maybe I'm just confused.

rear diff lock?, i dont have a elocker. i swapped out to a 4.10 for a couple of reasons. one, it was easier to just change the rear 3rd than pull the entire front and swap it, and secondly i found a rear 4.10 first for next to nothing... so it only made sense to swap that, and lastly its almost impossible to know for 100% what the front is without cracking it, or having both diffs available. and sense i didnt want to get into a front clam shell or buy a second 4.30 rear diff i didnt need i was preferring the 4.10. the gearing really doesnt matter to me honestly, because come april im gonna regear to 4.88 and throw in ARBs, so this was just to get my 4wd back and get me by until april.

How would I know if they've ever been swapped or which one I have? I know cars, not trucks so forgive me for my lack of knowledge in this category

id do a spin test first... im not sure how to do that with the IFS, i know it involves marking the driveline and the wheels and rotating the tires and counting the rotations of the drive line, or vice-versa... if the front and the rear are the same (and you will need to be precise -4.10 and 4.30 are not that different, but different enough...) you will see it in the amount of rotations, then if you still have questions id pull the rear 3rd member and count teath and compare that to what the vin plate tells you when you go to toyota and give them your vin to have them decode it for you.
