Putting in Rear LC coils

That is definitely the WRONG shock. It has a colapsed length of 20.75" and an extended length of 34.9".

I also just noticed that the compression strap is still on.

Yeah, I left the compression strap on to make it easy to get on the shock.. Now I'm glad I didn't take it off as I'll probably be shipping it back.

So, if this is definitely the wrong shock, what shock should I get??

I almost went with LC shocks, but I really wanted something that matched the fronts (same colors, design). I'm kinda a perfectionist like that.

I looked up the BE5-6252-H5 and wasn't sure if those were the blue/yellow styled ones are actually silver/black.

I did a search for lc coils, and the only answer I can seem to find is that you want an lc shock. I guess if you pull up a google search for landcruiser shocks from the same year as your coils you can get a measurement that you can cross reference.

EDIT: Here's some info: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/70513-lc-coil-shock-question.html

I don't remember how I got that part number on the thread. When I called the dealership they gave me 2 different part numbers neither of which were, as I was informed later, the right ones. but some how some way in my search to find the right shock I came up with the 48531-69417 you see in that thread.

Glad you got the springs in....I've always used a pry bar but then again that was on other vehicles and not my 4runner. I would think it would be the same.

Update....

I ran up to Toytec and got the right shocks, 6252-H5's (who knew one little number meant several more inches!), and will see if I get time tonight to put them on. I'll really want to finish the job, but don't think I'll have the time tonight. Tomorrow for sure!

Still having some difficulty getting the correct shocks on. The ones I picked up from Toytec have bushings that have a 5/8's inch hole. The rod that it has to go on is 3/4's inch (basically 1/8 of an inch too big). I'm trying some oil to grease it up and then bang on it with a hammer, but no go yet.

Any other ideas or suggestions?

Update:
I got the shocks on! I took a drill and carved out the inside of the eyelet (the rubber bushing part) just a tad bit. However, it was enough for me to pound it on with a little oil to keep it slick and a lot of elbow grease...

Sorry to keep aking questions, but I'm down to the last piece to put back together: hook up the panhard bar (without the panhard drop installed).

I remember seeing a post a while back about using a ratchet to line up the holes, but I can't seem to find the post right now. Anyone able to help me out or have any other ideas?
Thanks!

With the wheels still off, sway bar still unbolted, and shocks still unbolted on bottom, jack the driver's side of the axle up (doesn't look like how it works but apparently that's how) until the hole lines up on the panhard. I was confused first, but that's how I did it.

I feel your pain! Late Night wrench turning!

CoMarc? :sleepy: You still there? Did you make it? LOL
How did it go?

I went to bed! I posed the question and then went to spend some late night time with the wife... :D

Crap. Well, I already have the shocks bolted on, sway bar connected, and wheels on! I can take off the wheels and sway bar links easy enough, but after all the time I put getting those shocks on I reaaally don't want to take them off.

You don't need to take anything apart. Just have someone wiggle the rear end by pushing against the body while you are underneath and slide the bolt through the panhard eye once it lines up. That's what I did. I pushed on the right rear quarter panel why my wife slid the bolt in. Easy peasy.

the rachet strap worked for me when i try to put my pan hard back in place, imo pan hard ext and drop is overrated

Did you ever finish up?

I did finally get the panhard bar connected! I ended up having to remove the tires, disconnect the swaybar, took out the screws for the brake linesand unbolt the shocks (i did it from the top). Once done, I jacked up the driver side and used the bottle jack to push the frame over to get the panhard bolt in. Once that was in, I got everything bolted back together. I'll have more updates and pictures on my main lift thread probably tomorrow out saturday.
