PWR Steering Return/Pressure Line, $$$ Expensive, Any info...

Took T4R into shop today to get a power steering leak fixed. Mechanic called back and said it was going to be around $450 bucks because apparently it is the pressure/return lines, and it is one unit and is a dealer only part. Said it would be around $450 bucks with labor. I looked online, and didnt find much but seemed to run across some type of pressure/return lines for a Tacoma and they were in fact like $330 bucks so I guess it's about right. Anyone had to replace these before?? Hear I thought I may need a simple hose/ and or at most a pump. I wish it would have been the pump, it would be a hell of a lot cheaper. Argghhh

check locally for a shop that makes hydraulic hoses....

Pirtek I think is a national company....they make hoses on the spot for big earth moving equipment. They made some hoses for my old jeep once...just give them the old ones so they can reuse the fittings.

Check around before shelling out that kind of money

I cut a 1ft and $1 rubber tube like a hot dog bun, then centered it on my leak, and zip tied it in 4 spots, i havent had any issues in 6 months. When i am ready to finish the job i am gonna cut the bit on line out that has the hole in it and hose clamp a rubber tube in. But my leak was on the unpressurized line.

My lines look really scary. I finally found a set off a 4runner from California. Unfortunately you need the lines to be replaced now so you are stuck paying the stealer.

If you can get the parts cheap is this still something you can replace yourself? A quick search and I found the pressure hose for $273 + tax and the return hose for $17 + tax. So, if you can do the work yourself then you'll save between $100-$150 otherwise, the quote you got seems reasonable to me.
The pressure hose is quite large.

LWR return hose

The LWR Return hose on my 04' V8 is leaking. The power-steering is broken, so hopefully this is all that needs to be replaced. Anyone ever replace this before? Thanks

Is there any reason the return hose can't just be replaced with a 3/8" hose entirely? It's low pressure and both ends are attached with a spring clamp anyways.

For the supply hose, it's high pressure, but similarly, is there a reason why you couldn't get two end fittings and crimp it onto a full section of hydraulic hose (that is properly rated)?

This would remove some of the complexity in having to work around all the bent lines.

Return line can be replaced with anything. I got my high pressure from member parting out for like $80.

On side note why is a 4th gen guy reviving a 6 year old thread in the 3rd gen section.
