Quasi-official pics of 2010 4Runner

Ok...so, "diff lock" is likely the center diff, not the rear locker...that would make more sense.

The button is for RR DIFF LOCK. There WILL be a rear diff lock. The lighted indicator icon is on the gauge cluster and all. You will see on Thursday.

JA...i take your word on it. Well, at least, there will be a rear locker. So, the 4wd system will be the same as the FJ Automatic 4wd. :(

So it seems....perhaps in preparation of the FJ phase out. Back to it's roots. :nono:

knee airbags? Now that's a seller for me...
When I totaled my 2000 last month the only little bit of damage I did to myself was bruised knees. So glad I was driving a 4Runner (poor truck deserved a better driver than me though. Urgh).
Are these after market installable on 4th Gens? (knee-bags, not good drivers...)

Damn...not that far back!! So, how different is the 5th gen from an Xterra?? Yeah, it is bigger, but 4runners have always been a step ahead of the Xterra/FJ/Tacoma crowd in terms of its 4wd system (and other luxury stuff)...same class as Pathfinders. If Toyota is gonna canned the FJ in the near future, then i can see that Toyota is aiming the 4runner to take on both Xterra and Pathfinder classes. But, if FJ remains, then what is the point???:redbrick: This 5th gen better be cheaper than the 4th gen!! If the 4runner gonna go back to its "roots," then the price for admission better reflects it too!!

Seriously, if this is true (and it seems to be so), then the 5th gen just fell off my list of vehicles that i want to buy. For me, this is a HUGE issue, much more so than the rear locker. The rear locker (avail or not) can be fixed aftermarket. A part time 4wd system cannot be upgraded to a fulltime system. I rather Toyota spend money on keeping status quo on the 4wd system and throw away the rear locker...i can fix the rear locker deficiency, i canNOT fix a crappy old world 4wd system!

EDIT: Safety Connect?! So, here we are wasting money on BlondStar!!!

Agreed, but just to re-iterate, the full time zexel torsen center diff is still available, but most likely only on the limited. While you could get a limited and put 17" rims on it (brakes are all 13.3" rotors so you should be able to do this), if you go with the limited it appears that you will have to forego the offroad goodies (kdss, multi terrain select, crawl control, larger black matte flares, etc.) .

:D Good point Thai, I agree. One thing we know is that eliminating the V8 would presumably lower the price right off the bat for a fully loaded Limited 4x4 T4R - I think the V8 was roughly a $2K option on 4th gens, right? But in addition to that, I'm expecting the price of a 5th gen Limited V6 4x4 to be about a thousand or so less than a comparable '09 Limited 4x4 V6 because it's gonna be missing some nice stuff like projector headlights, LED tails, etc.

Part-time 4WD, or stuck with full time 4WD. Toyota: Moving Backwards.

More reason for me not to like or consider a 5th gen, by moving up the trim line, it is excluding buyers from certain options and features, i.e. getting a Limited for full time 4WD means no KDSS and skinnier tires. That's worst than Honda's approach of making you get the top of the line to have more features, at least you get everything.

Agree completely.

No full-time? Not for me.

The TE and SR5 will be Part Time ONLY with no ability to run in 4WD with the center diff unlocked, cause there is no true center diff. The Limited will be full time 4WD ONLY, when you switch to 4Lo you will have the center diff locked automatically and not be able to be in 4Lo unlocked.

This would really suck. The full time 4wd is great in the rain, and we certainly don't get much snow around here. And I use 4lo-unlocked to pull heavy boats around the ramp and it works great. These two are probably the best features of my '06. As others have said, it would be a huge step down. Honestly, so far this is not looking like a vehicle for me - starting with no v8, and no full-time 4wd without stepping up to the limited, and no unlocked 4-lo.

Well, maybe the 4wd news isn't correct, and maybe they will bring back the v8 in a few years. One can only hope!

A Toyota Tundra forum lists this as the interior of the 5th gen. Not too sure what to think about it... Sure the look is updated but it feels...cold. Everything is there but nothing catches the eye...and those silver plastics looks horribly cheap. The 4th gen interior is starting to show it's age but at least it's well done and efficient (except maybe the A/C controls). This is too generic for my taste.

the 05 4runner cost more to make then the 06, the 06 cost more to make
than the 2010, so the point is that "back to its roots" means cheap cost-effective 4runner. so when everyone talks abouts "back to its roots" IT MEANS CHEAP

Why did the '05 cost more to make than the '06? If anything, I think the '06 would have cost more to make. That's when they added stuff like projector headlights and LED tails, which have to cost more money.

This go further than just the 4Runner. Pretty much every Toyota model updated in the last 3 years has used cheaper plastics. Toyota's new president said in a communique last month that this would have to stop, that Toyota needed to go back to its old philosophie of making less but better vehicules.

the fog lights are alot cheaper almost 1/4 of the price of the 05, bumpers, fenders and even the tailgate, the shhet metal to the plastic is cheaper.

I hope Toyoda means what he said. I have been very discouraged with most of their products for the last 1-2 model changes on EVERY vehicle they make. Especially the Tundra and Sequoia. The cheap interior materials are a horrible way to save a few bucks. I think the worse part is not just the hard plastic door panels, but the ugly, ugly cheap fake wood in them that doesnt even look good as a fake. Just totally ruins the interior on units equipped with the simulated wood package. I think it is absolutely stupid to introduce new features on a vehicle, only to get rid of them later on down the road. Once a feature is introduced, it should never be deleted from the standard/option list on any future model year unless there is a safety hazard with it or is widely unpopular and cheesy (AKA the current gen. Tacoma's taillights!). I feel in love with Toyota years ago because they were a smaller company that put Quality and long lasting Durability first. Thats what got everyone to give them a look. People talk when you have a 15 year old car/truck with 350k on the odometer.

Okay, gotta ask this----- how is the tailgate any cheaper? Isn't it a carry-over from the '05 body to the '06 body? I didn't think it was different. Also, why would the sheetmetal be any cheaper? Unless they made it from a thinner gauge metal, but I seriously doubt that is the case.
