Question about fulltime 4WD availibility

When I first researched the 5Gen 4Runner not long after it came out the full-time 4WD was only available on the Limited. Now I've been looking at used 2013 4Runner SR5s and I noticed that some of them have full-time 4WD systems. Is that something that has changed with the recent model years? The reason I'm asking is because I don't really need all the options that come with the Limited but I do need a full time 4WD system.

no, you may have misread, or the author of the ads you're looking at misspoke. full-time 4wd is only on the limited, the trail and sr5 are part-time systems

The newer SR5 use a knob similar in appearance to the knob in the limited. The Trail uses a lever. You are probably seeing the knob and assuming it is the same system in the LE. The knob in the SR5 has settings for 2H/4H/4L.

Only Limited has the Torsen center diff. The TE has a transfer case.

They all have transfer cases if they are 4WD... I think you mean the TE has an open Center Diff like the other Trims, which is pretty lame actually. I don't understand how Toyota justified raising the price on the 5th gen and removing content that was pretty high selling point on the 4th gen (i.e. all 4WD 4th gens came with Torsen T3 Center diffs in the US)

No, the TE and SR5 do not have a center diff at all.

That is exactly it. I saw the know like the one in the Limited and I assumed it had the same 4WD system. Thanks.

It's just a stock Magnetic Grey Limited. So far I added roof rack cross bars. Next I want to add running boards (mine came without those items). Then I'll take some pictures and post them.
