Question about idle.

Hi guys. I have a 2001 2WD SR5 with a V6.

I have recently moved to the tropical paradise of North Dakota. Ever since the temps have gotten below 20F, when I start the truck it revs instantly up to about 1500RPM. Once warm, it has a normal idle of about 900RPM.

Is this normal, or is this something I need to have taken care of? Could it be frozen grease on the throttle linkage?

Thanks for the help.

Its normal. Hasn't it always done that?

It should always be about 7-900 rpm if you have it in drive. In park it will be at 15-1800 to warm up.

The cold idle sounds normal, but warm idle spec in neutral with A/C off is 700 RPM ± 50. Mine has been spot on in all weather for 13 years.
