Question About Injectors

So I have seen quite a few 3rd gens lately with failed/failing injectors, its common on some older Toyotas around the same vintage as well. Though, mostly it manifests as a cold start issue. I have had 3 seperate 3rd gen's with the 5VZ-FE have hot misfires where the vehicle misfires at operating temperature. The issue seems to be a break-down in the windings of the injectors resulting in increased resistance when hot and failure.

My question is how many of you guys have had this issue? Seems to be occurring north of the 150k mark, usually closer to 200k.

This is more for my own curiosity than anything else, I'm just wondering if its become/becoming a common problem to watch out for on higher mileage 5VZ-FE motors. Its not too bad a fix, new reman'd injectors are a little under $300 plus a couple hours of labor to install; so its not a super crazy fix.

215k on mine with out an issue. Fuel system has never been opened up (to my knowledge so at lease in the last 100k). I do run redline fuel system cleaner through the tank once and a while however to keep things clean and clear.

No issues at all at 300,000 KM's . Never any fuel additives but have always used quality fuel .

3 other buds with hi miles , no issues either .

Not for me, and not too many that I can recount on here, but they do occur.

I will mention that there is a member here from the OC I believe who though he had a failing injector, sent them to Witchunter to get tested and clean, came back reading OK, but in the end the injector was still bad so it was ultimately replaced and no more problems.

I have friends out in CA with boats who loath using any type of formulated gas with ethanol in it. I don't know if it is higher out there than the stated 10% here in the Mid Atlantic region. I have found that these 5vz injectors are more sensitive to types of gas then any of my other autos, including my 1st gen Tundra.

Keep us abreast if the failures continue to occur with frequency. BTW, nice DIY writeup on changing out the TB/H20 pump on a 4.7.

I had the problem on one of mine. Happened exactly as you said too, once it was hot and out on the highway.

However, don't use aftermarket injectors. They're prone to issues right out of the gate. I sent mine to WitchHunter, no issues at all after that. And it's only $21/injector.
