Question about production changes

Hi everyone. I've been looking for a Gen3 for a while now and have been wondering about what changes Toyota made during production. I'm especially interested in the powertrain, running gear and braking system. I looked through the Master thread and found some info about bigger front brakes and bumpers. There's probably more that I missed so please excuse me there. (I think I remember reading somewhere that the water pump was updated in '98 and the ABS in '99?) I'd really like to hear about what you guys think about any noticable differences (if any) in driving performance between early and late production run 4x4 5spd models. Thanks, Paul.

In 99 center consol and dash got updated engine and trany stayed the same from 96-02 99+ limited models got traction control 99+ got newer style bumpers. Just little stuff. The drive trains are rock solid.

Just a couple of things:

Manual trans was only available on Base and SR5 models, from '96-'00. The 4 cylinder engine was only available from '96-'00. The rear diff locker was an option on all 4wd models.

99-00 Limited 4wd models had a Multi-Mode T-case which allowed Full-time 4wd. They did not have traction control. The rear diff locker was an option.

'01-'02 all 4wd models had a Multi-Mode T-case, and traction control, stability control, and electronic brake force distribution. No rear diff locker available.
