Question | Bilstein 5100's for leveling

I recently had a guy at a mechanic shop help install bilstein 5100s on my sr5, front and back, with a daystar 1.5" spacer in the rear. I wanted the 1.75" setting for the front. For some reason I think that maybe they went to the .85. Can someone look at the pics and let me know what they think? I can't tell what notch they went to. I dont' want to deal with those guys again. I was super clear on which setting I wanted. I didn't expect such a large rake.

In the link above your post, another person with the exact same setup measured:
Front Driver's: 36.75"
Front Passenger's: 36.90"
Rear Driver's: 36.10"
Rear Passenger's: 36.60"

As Saker suggested you can take your measurements to compare.

As an FYI - I have 2" in the front and 1.5 in the rear and I have a rake. I would expect yours would be more than mine.

hard to tell but it looks like they went to the 3rd notch. Even at 1.75" you would have rake with a 1.5" spacer. I have the front set to 2.25" and a 1.5" spacer out back and it is pretty level.

Thanks guys for the input. I think that I will stick with the setup I have now, or go to 2.5 if I have time to work on it myself.

I didn't do any measurements, and just trusted my research. Everything is good though, the 4runner killed it at Moab. Took it on Chicken Corners and Poison Spider. Poison Spider was rough, but very impressed with the 4runner so far.

I'll probably in a couple years go with an OME lift and bigger tires next time around.

Just installed mine last weekend and it looks like they went 1.75" .. one notch from the top from the way the spring is seated. Rake looks about right as well for the lift. You would have a lot more at .85

- So do you have Bilsteins all around, set at 1.75 up front and 1.5 spacers in the rear?
If so, could you get a side on picture and maybe measurements to the top of your wheel well arches?

yes, but only 1" cornfed spacer in the rear, its tough because everyone pictures almost look different from all the angles heres another one of mine from the front

Leveling 2015 trail premium to add bigger wheels and tires

Hi guys, new member and new to the 4Runner scene. Have had a 2015 Trail Premium for about a year now for the wife's daily driver. I am wanting to level it mainly just to add some bigger aftermarket wheels and tires/for looks. Hopefully I'm not beating a dead horse with this, but I had a few questions about it as I'm new to Toyotas. I was trying to decide whether to go with just a spacer kit for a front end level, or something like the bilstein 5100's. I believe I'm going to get the bilsteins as it's probably the better option. But I also don't want to spend a ton of money to level the 4Runner for bigger wheels and tires, as it is just her daily driver and won't be going off road all that much..

I am wanting to run 18x9 Grid GD5 wheels (Pictured) with somewhere around a +15 offset. And like a 285/60/18 or 275/65/18 all terrain tire. Probably cooper st maxx or nitto terra grappler, maybe toyo.

1. Will this setup fit in the front with 1.75" or 2.5" leveling on the 5100 bilsteins, without rubbing, or minimal trimming?..
2. Will I need anything else besides just the bilsteins? Aftermarket upper control arms, Front diff drop kit, etc?..
3. Will anything need to be done to the rear suspension to fit this setup? Matching 5100 bilsteins? Or coils that provide more lift, etc?..

Thank you for any insight, appreciate it guys!

I have a new 2016 TEP ... 2k miles ... stock aside from ko2's at factory size. I want to 1) remove some of the rake and 2) reduce nosedive.

So, I promise I read all 13 pages ... and this was very informative. Just to summarize what I think I have learned:

1) 5100's on all four corners, with setting at .85 front will remove some rake
2) 5100's should help with brake diving
3) if I want more lift later, I can redo the front to higher setting and add a spacer or spring to the rear
4) if I go higher than 1.75 in the front some day I'll probably need uca's but shouldn't at .85

Does that sound right?

Hi All,

I hope I'm not hijacking this thread (maybe repurposing?)..after an hour (!) or so of googling "4Runner", "Bilstein", etc., I still don't understand exactly how the 5100s are configured for lift and/or rake.

I get that in an "empty" truck, the lift/rake is a combination of the settings on front & rear...my purposes are a bit more specific and would be grateful for any advice.

Specifically: I love exactly the way the 4runner sits at stock settings (lift and rake) and want to keep it this way. At the same time, I want to install a hidden winch mount (and winch) up front (~125 lbs), but want to avoid nose as much as possible. I also do tow a ~2000lb teardrop, and it'd be nice to have firmer support in back.

Is a set of 5100s right?

Thanks for your help!

I have 5100s all around. 1.75 up front and the back I added 1 inch spacer. Sits just like factory but taller. I am impressed. Haven't towed anything just yet though.

You can see my pics in my album.

1.75 front and 1.5 rear is not gonna do much for the rake. I have 1.75 front and .8 rear (2x 10mm spacers) w/ KDSS and it still has a slight forward rake. If anything, change the setting to 2.25 on the front.

Here’s more pics just for reference. Billies on all 4 with front set at 1.75. No rear spacers etc...

Very nice! Thanks for the post. This is the exact stance I'm looking for on my 2016 TEP. Don't want to hijack this thread but what size tires are those...if you don't mind me asking?

Stock size. 265/70 but on bfg ko2’s. Anything larger would probably just look even better.

Added 4 5100s today and the front is at 2.5". Wishing I went one notch down from 2.5" and I would be pretty level. Tires are 275/70/17 on stock wheels.

Are you happy with setup?

It's been a couple years since this thread has had posts. I am considering doing what others have done, namely 5100s front and back. My needs are modest general purpose, including some deep snow, winter graded roads, some shallow mud and water. Not technical rock crawling.

For those who did something similar, have you been happy wit the result? What front/back heights worked the best? Would you do anything differently in retrospect?

Thanks, I.

I have Bilstein 5100s all around with no lift and BFG KOs 285/55/20s. Early on they rubbed a bit when turning, but I think the tire won the battle with the plastic. :)

I removed my XREAS as a part of this project. It's not that hard at all. Mainly it can be a bit messy if you don't open the valves on the shocks VERY quickly (it will spray everywhere). Also, you need to remove the lines with the side you are working on jacked up, to reduce the fluid pressure on that specific shock.

Which setting did you go with on the front to get that level look. Thanks.
