Question for moon roof owners

OK, so I have a moonroof.
Is there a way to remove the felt covered piece below the glass?
I really don't want to remove it, but the handle is loose and I can't see how I would get a screw driver between the glass and the cover to tighten it down.

I guess if I could remove it, I could clean it too...

PO was not nice to this poor truck.

Try an angled screwdriver. They sell them with a 90 degree bend in the end. Flat on one side and phillips on the other. Good for tight spots. that combined with the flexibility of the slide should make it possible

good idea.


I believe you have to drop the headliner to remove the cover.
as far as cleaning it goes, just use a steam cleaner with the wand attachment.

you cant open the sunroof, without also opening the cover.

hmm, I guess you're right.. I forget about that b/c I always pull the cover back before opening the sunroof. Guess that idea is out of the picture then haha.

Try opening the sunroof just partway and then see if there is enough play in the cover to reach it from the top.

You're going to need a angled phillips screwdriver or maybe a phillips drill bit, locking needle nose plyers and some patience..

Wish I have a moonroof to help.. All my cars do. But I am also kind of glad this 12 year old truck didnt.. Just one other thing to repair.

Could you post a pic? i have remove dozens of sunroof and the only way you could remove the sliding cover is dropping the head liner,if the problem is the actual cover you can remove the glass and work on the other side.the glass easily comes off just by removing the 4 bolts holding the glass on it's side,make sure to mark the height of the glass protrusion to avoid wind noise later on.

Good idea about removing the glass, sounds easier than removing the headliner.
I'll try an angled screwdriver, but I can just barely get my hand inbetween the glass & cover, so I'll have to look for a tiny screwdriver...

Tilt the sunroof up and push the cover back almost all the way to the end and pull it down a little bit.. I was able to get enough room for my fist to fit and be able to turn it side ways. I could hold a small phillips bit and reach it easily. A Swiss Army knife or a multi tool with the small screw driver built in would work just fine.

If you have no fixed it already, try getting a drill bit and stick in in a small ratcheting hex wrench. That may fit!
