Question for Oregonians

For those in Oregon, If you have emissions testing where you live and FAILED because of a converter, What did you do to fix it?

if your in Va, what does it matter about emisssions in Oregon.

but...I'm not sure we do any emission tests in Oregon . I recently had been told that they are starting to in Portland, but I live in the sticks, where we don't do any kind of testing. many people just yank off their emission stuff on older vehicles.

Depends where you live in OR. Portland and populated areas have emissions testing, others don't. If you do and your failing for bad cat, its easiest to just replace the cat. Most shops can weld one on for about $200-250.

My brother is moving there next month hence why I asked. I guess I was looking for names of Aftermarket converters used and or ones to avoid if it came down to that, My brothers 4runner is a Cali Emissions Vehicle.

They only test in Portland metro and Medford, I believe.

As someone already mentioned, it just depends on where you live in Oregon. However, if the truck is a Cali Smog truck then you might be able to tweak a few things to pass whatever test they have in Oregon. Depends obviously on how bad the cat is failing.

I recently had to jump through some hoops while dealing with a 20 year old cat with nearly 400k on it. Got it to pass California emissions though.

wow...glad I don't live in Portland or Medford, although I'm sure mine would pass...right now anyway
