Question for the Plasti-Dip Crazies

I had my old FJ40 Land Cruiser repainted recently and I've got the standard rubber floor mats in the front of the tub. The vehicle spends a lot of time at the beach and picks up a lot of sand that gets under the mats which is pretty hard on the clear coat and paint.

Wondering if you guys think a couple of coats of Plasti-Dip might be a good solution for protection under the mats? I like the idea that it's not permanent.

plasti dip is very durable and can take some abuse. but i dont think it will last long with essentially sand paper (sand between the matt and floor) rubbing against it.

BUT you might as well go ahead and do it, worst case scenario you are out like $15 and a couple hours work.

If u want to stick with plastidip then spray a few coats going from light to heavy. Then spray the plastidip glossifier over it. Its plastidip version of a clear coat. It can take some beating. If u wanted someone more then get a small can of spray in bed liner. It should be right next to the plastidip(atleast is was at my lowes)

Try the rhino liner spray.

I saw a jacked up ford the other day and the whole thing was painted with rhino liner. looked pretty cool driving by.

I've had it on my wheels and emblems now for over a year and I'm surprised at how well it holds up.

That said- It would probably work for what you want to do for a while. The paint comes off easily if you rub it with your fingers, but then you have to peel it off the rest of the way. It would protect that clear coat better than nothing for sure.

For a more permanent solution, you may want to consider a spray-on rattlecan bedliner. Rustoleum makes a nice one that's cheap (Home Depot sells it). I sprayed my storage box with it and it's super tough stuff.
