Question: Methods for powering the speakers without a headunit?

I have a question for the audio guys out there. I am currently piecing together the items I need for a very top secret build I am planning. Is there a way to provide AUX 3.5mm or coaxial input to the car speakers without using a head unit? I have searched for a few days now, both on site and throughout Google, and haven't found anything useful. I remember from awhile back that a company had installed an iPad into the dash in place of the head unit. I figure I need an amplifier, but I just don't know which kind. Same obstacle I have, but different mod though.

I nearly have everything for this build and it should be a very useful addition to the 4Runner with a big possibility for streaming upgrades in the future.

The other comparable products like rockford 360 or jl cleansweep, etc may do it also.

i think you should check out soundman car audio . that guy do ipads on the dash, also you need an amp, considering bluetooth to connect and using that to control the volume.

You have a few options. You can use a processor and send audio through the processor and then through a multi channel amp and then have the amp run the speakers, or you can run a head unit remotely with the iPad/android tablet and process your audio through that and power the speakers with it or use a multi channel amp with the head unit as well. You can install the head unit or processor in the glovebox, center console, basically anywhere you can stuff it and mount your tablet in the dash or in place of your factory head unit and make a bezel for it. The best suggestion I have is to use a bluetooth capable single din head unit and then your integration with your tablet or iPad will be wireless. Then you can make it removable and just place it in the bezel while you are driving and pop it out to take with you for work/home.

im not running a head unit in my 89 4runner. just a 3.5mm to rca into a pac lc-1 into a splitter to two amps, a alpine 4 channel working two rockford fosgate prime 6x9s and two ifinity 4"s. second amp is a class d alpine monoblock pushing a 12" type e. doesnt really sound the greatest but it was all stuff from craiglist and pawn shops. Didnt put a lot of money into it since i cant lock my doors and it gets rained in a lot.

when one of my head units was stolen i just ran a 3.5-to-RCA from my phone to my old cheap nothing-special amp.
that simple.
but make sure you can manually switch the amp on/off

i used the old rear window lock pushbutton for my on off switch. set it into one of the blanks on the dashboard. now the hole where my head unit would have been is a storage cubby.
