Question on 33's

I have 3" of lift and 285/75 and they would rub the crap out of the pinch weld if I didn't trim and pound them out.. They work great now with some slight modification to the fender but it's worth the work imo!

BrandonF - I see you got the Treadrights...How are those? They fit well?

If I do GO with the 265's and decide to lift it higher than the 3 inch suspension (1.5 inch body?) They are gonna look tiny right? My head is just about to explode with all this freakin tire info :boom:

Conclusion - 265's - Easier on the truck...and gas..

285's - Never hear any complaints on breaking anything?? Or am I just missing that thread lol. Only complaints on 285s is rubbing? Stressing the suspension? Power on motor?
Yeah I'm on my 2nd set of treadwrights. My first set were 265/75/16's. I've had no problems with them. They perform well on and off road and the price is pretty hard to beat.

As far as appearance, keep in mind that wheel width, style and back spacing will have a huge impact on the overall appearance. Even with 285's, 4runners with a 3"+ lift and stock wheel spacing don't look very good in my opinion, not to mention that stability is compromised. With my setup, Im lifted 2.5" up front and 4" in the rear and my track width is about 5" wider than stock. Though keep in mind, the wider you go, the more they will rub.

Overall, I think you'd be happy with 265's, a 3" lift and some aftermarket wheels with a wider offset.

Guys - be aware the 5 stars are 7" wide rims, and most tire manufacturers require a 7.5-8" wide rim for anything larger than a 265. Most shops will refuse to mount a 285 on a 7" wide rim. This is not something to ignore (for your safety and the safety of the rest of us).

OP: With this in mind I'd stick with the 265's, unless you are ready for new rims.

That's why I bought 2014 T4R TE wheels! They're 7.5" wide & I was really scared that my mechanic wouldn't mount my new 285's on my old 7" wheels. That 1/2" makes a big difference! :heh::biggrin1:

Im trying to keep the 5 stars if possible without too much surgery lol

And I like what im hearing so far as to as little work I think I have to do. I am probably way over thinking it. So best bet is to get a set of duratracs and go at it? 285s?

I have a SS 3" lift, 1" Body lift, 1.5" spacers, AllPro UCA's & have zero rubbing with 285's. No pounding or trimming needed.

Also remember that every tire is different. Some manufactures are larger than 33" & some are smaller. My Hankook 285's are a little smaller than 33". Check the specs before you buy.

bugman-74 I appreciate the looking out. I didn't know what the factory specs of the 5 stars were, and that was some handy piece of info i never knew before.

I have been talking with a guy near me and he is saying just to go 32s' and agreeing with Absalom that 265/75/16s are the easiest on your suspension and mileage.

Is the 75 in the middle of the dimension the width of the tire? If so, is a 265 and a 285 the same width? Sorry If i am asking redundant questions, I just want to be sure in the decision that I go with will be the only tires I buy in the next 2-4 years.

Just a heads up I ran 265s with 3" of lift for about 2 months while I was saving up for my new tires and I didn't have my license at the time and they looked terrible to me. I hated it. It looked disproportionate and stupid. You might have a different opinion but that's mine. 3"+ of lift and I would say a 265 would look tiny.

I have 285/75R16 Pro Comp MT2's with no lift or spacers. It will rub really bad if you are not willing to cut and hammer your firewall back a at least 1.5". I just cut off the pinchweld and some of the plastic wheel well. I didn't have to cut my firewall or weld anything but I did beat my my firewall with a BFH about 2" in. It doesn't look the prettiest but it doesn't stand out looking bad either. It will rub the UCA and the frame at full lock and occasionally rubs when offroading. It is definitely doable but its a little bit of work and you gotta be willing to cut and hammer.

Any more pictures? I love rigs with big tires and small/no lifts

(Lift is so over rated IMO)

BFH = ?? Or do I have to ask?

Big old sledgehammer when its on a lift?

I am trying to decide on these two tires....both of course will be coming from TOYOTA TRD DIRECT FROM THE DEALER. I got a hook up. Which style do you guys like more?

LOL, we got a few of those, which rim should I go with?

The top one for sure! :thumb:

Here are some more pics. I suck at remembering to take pictures when offroading. Usually having too good of a time to stop to take a picture

Ok, SO I just ordered a set of 295/75/16s which will measure out at a true 33.4 inches I was told. How will they fit with a standard 3 inch suspension lift. I know I will have to hammer or do some surgery.

Tires will be in tomorrow :whoo:
