Question on 33's

I know this thread has been covered a thousand times already, I have used the search tool and many times have tried finding my exact set up, but no details on what the person did to fit 33s.

I have the stock 5 star lug wheels. I want to know exactly what I need to do to fit 285s or if I should go with 255's.

I have stock UCA's and 265/70/16's right now.

Would I just need wheel spacers and a 1.5inch BL to be safe?

These are my current tires...as you can tell I want something more aggressive and more trail inviting..


So how much hammering and trimming is gonna be needed if I were to add a BL and spacers? I really like the look of the 5 stars.



Edit: My ultimate goal for my truck is to sit taller and look aggressive. Not 35's aggressive.

I'm running 285s on mine. A 3" lift and 1.25" wheel spacers cleared everything great. I had very minimal rubbing when the tires were brand new at full lock but everything works great now
 
They might just clear how you are sitting now. Sometimes you may rub the stock UCA's but nothing a small spacer or new rims cant fix. You would most likely need to trim some of the fender flare in the front because it will rub a little.

Im trying to keep the 5 stars if possible without too much surgery lol

And I like what im hearing so far as to as little work I think I have to do. I am probably way over thinking it. So best bet is to get a set of duratracs and go at it? 285s?

They are actually off of a Tacoma but they're 16x7 and the tires are 285/75/16 Nitto Trail Grapplers. The rims are also powder coated. The guy I bought the truck from had them on there

Hows the power with 285s? Is it a big difference in acceleration? Or will it hardly be noticeable. I live in a flat piece of Texas without many Hills.

I mean you're gonna notice a difference but it's definitely not terrible. I live in a pretty up and down part of Alabama and it gets annoying not having the power sometimes but then again there's really no need in going fast. But it'll hold 70mph on the interstate just fine. Especially somewhere flat
 
255s?

And what about 255s? Would they fit without rubbing with a 3" lift without having to run spacers?

Honestly I have no clue. But assuming you're talking about a 255/85 then I would bet money they would fit just fine without spacers.

Does the thinner tire even look terrible? I picture it super skinny and tall. Compared to a beefy and tall tire that looks mean.
My question is do the 255s still put off the aggressive look? Also the selection from what I've seen is pretty piss poor. I mean KM2s or coopers are all I could really Find.

Edit: Forgot to mention gas mileage. How is that affected

The only vehicle I've seen that size on in person is my buddy's 09 Tacoma. And don't get me wrong it looked fine but it's not what I would go with. And yeah the selection is limited. At least with the 285s you don't have to run BFGs. I've had my nittos for just over 2 years now

Forgot to ask about gas mileage
 
My 285 75 16's on split 3 spokes rub like crazy with wheel spacers, but rubbed the UCA sitting on flat ground. My next route is a 2" body lift, the pinch weld mod will not work because the tires hit the fenders in the front, the rear would be workable as is if I spaced the bumpstops and trimmed the rear bumper.

Note: I have no sway bars on, I think if I did I wouldn't have this issue but it flexes so well without them. My truck sees a lot of flex on the trails here in CO. I couldn't justify limiting it when the whole purpose of the lift was to make it more capable.
 
If you're just looking for a more aggressive appearance, avoid the 255's. 285's will decrease gas mileage and power. I have the manual transmission so its not too bad. I get 17-18 mpg, city or highway doesn't make much difference. I have 2.5" of suspension lift and no body lift. I clearanced my wheel wells to clear the tires at full compression. This included hammering the firewall, cutting the bottom of the front fenders, and rolling the rear fenders. A body lift is the easy way out. With a 2" body lift, I doubt you'll rub at all. Although you'll have a 2" body lift...
 
A little late, but I'll add my input:

I got 285 Duratracs with my stock 5 stars, 3" ToyTec Lift, no spacers, and stock UCAs. They rubbed the fender flares at full lock and in reverse, but with a little bit of trimming, it was minimal. UCA would occasionally rub, but nothing too bad, and the frame also a small amount at full lock.

You'll probably be able to run 285s with minimal trimming if you run that body lift. At that point, spacers are pretty much just an aesthetic thing...

I feel that rubbing is different for everyone, so it's hard to exactly what will happen for you!
