Questions about Blower fan belt and rear window

whenever my AC, heat, etc runs (ie the fans are being used) there is a loud noise that comes from my 4runner that reminds me of a helicopter. Any idea if its the belt that needs to be replaced or a different problem? also, how difficult would it be to replace that belt and what is the part #?


Secondly, my rear window wont go up or down (hasnt since 1998, 6 months after the vehicle was bought new). my 4runner was backed into by a trash truck and the door was repaired but the rear window wiper, rear window cleaner stuff and the window itself do not work anymore. any ideas? Could all the motors in the rear hatch be bad or could it be a fuse?

The whirring noise coming from the engine is probably your fan clutch, and it's probably a normal noise. Belts squeal, not make noises like helicopters. I would assume your rear window issue is electrical, see if there is power back there with a test light.

the noise is very loud and rather annoying. It only makes the sound when i turn my fans on for the AC, heat, etc. The faster i drive the faster the noise, and the noise stops and goes which seems to be random.

Where do i use the test light to see if its an electrical problem?

It sounds like your rear window is either not up all the way or the mechanism that tells whether it is up is not working. If it is not up completely the wiper will not work or spray fluid. And check the fan under the passenger seat for the rear heat and cooling. Mine is louder than I would like. Good luck.

The rear window is up, as for the arms on the motor im not sure. The window hasnt worked since 1998. My 1997 model doesnt have rear heating/Ac. The only vents are in the front of the vehicle, and the noise can be heard from outside the vehicle and sounds as if my engine is knocking (but the noise goes away when i turn the fans off).

have you tried to clean out the blower motor possibly debry in there

I never thought about that. Ill have to give it a try this weekend when i have a little time to see if thats the problem. what would be the best way of going about that?

go to the passanger side of truck under glove box and there should be either 3 or 4 screws u can remove the hole blower motor out of its case

My guess is the blower fan has debris or is broken. I had an old Volvo that did that if you turned the fan up too high. It was fun being able to scare passengers though!! It is like 4 screws and should be a super easy fix.

my check engine light also popped on when it started making the noise today...
