Questions about Lift/Tires

I have some questions for the community...

I have ordered Bilstein adjustable shocks with matching rears from 4WheelParts (by the way $275 OTD :clap2 and am planning on lifting my 05 Limited. It has XREAS so I am planning on replacing it and getting some lift out of the Bilsteins. I also have FJ Springs thanks to @dougiefreshmx which I am planning on using.

I also have a Daystar kit (KT09115BK) which I was considering using, but went with the Bilstein setup before I could get the Daystar kit installed.

My questions for the community are as follows...

1) When I get the Bilsteins installed, which of the 3 settings should I use? (see question 2)

2) When I get the Bilsteins installed, should I use the Daystar kit as well or will this be too much strain on my UCAs/CVs?

3) What tire size will can I expect to use? From what I have read, the 265/70-17 is a good choice for the BFG ATs. I would be open to other suggestions for tires/sizes. I would like to go bigger than stock size tires. (I won't mind removing the mud flaps and/or trimming the wheel wells.)

I know that this is a lot of information and a lot of questions to be answered, but I knew I could count on the T4R community. Thanks!

1) If you are going for 2.5" of lift, you would put the Bilsteins on the top setting. Do not use the spacers.

2) I would not recommend running the spacers if you are going to be off-roading the vehicle much.

3) With a 2.5" Kit, most people go for a 285/75R16 which is close to a 33" tire.

Also with the Xreas system, it think you have to also replace the rear shocks when you replace the fronts.

I also remembered that, as pictured, I was able to acquire the 1" airbags for the rear suspension. I would consider using the airbags if anyone thought it would be a good addition to the setup. Thanks!

Do you tow?

To stress, do NOT use the spacers on top of 5100s You risk overextending and damaging the shocks

No, I don't tow except for the occasional once or twice a year...

Noted not to use a front spacer with the 5100. Should I put the 5100 on the highest setting even though I have a V6 and use a spacer in the rear to level it out?

4WheelParts was running a $25 off any purchase of more than $50 between Christmas and New Years... Luckly for me, there is a 4WheelParts a block from where I work so I went 4 days in a row and purchased the shocks seperately. Fronts were 100 a piece = 75 a piece after coupon and the rears were 80 a piece = 55 a piece. The downside from purchasing in the store vs. online was tax was another $25 but I don't mind promoting smaller, local businesses. I'm happy with the deal!

You don't really need the airbags if you're not towing or loading up the rear.

I like high, so I'd probably put the 5100's at 2.5 and runa 1.5" rear spacer or something similar to level it out a bit

Awesome Zopperman, That is exactly the type of recommendation I was looking/wanting to hear. I think that will be what I go for... now for what kind/size tires?? Decisions Decisions!

265/70/17 if you're running stock wheels would be my recommendation.

Here is my truck with daystar and stock tire size compared to another

I had some rubbing with the larger tires (265/75/16 because I got new wheels), but I was also running spider trax. (still am)




Here is how it sits with 5100's and eibach coils, no rubbing, aftermarket wheels and bigger tires. I had some BAD spring sag as you can see
