Questions about New Headlights

I suggest used OEM over the aftermarket. Most of those e-Bay and Internet aftermarket are Chinese Eagle Eye and the light pattern is just bizarre. I have one of each right now, and the difference is major.

TOYOTA 4RUNNER 1999-2002 HEADLIGHT SET LIGHTS 2001 PAIR - eBay (item 280463791974 end time Mar-07-11 13:37:09 PST)

$80 shipped....i plan to get these for my retrofit since I have the hazzy 97 headlights now

Also, NickF, are your lights from DEPO a darker shade (they look smoked)? Also, have you tried putting them in the oven to get the lens/glass part off to do a retrofit? Because I read in a forum that it is sometimes difficult to get the lens off in aftermarket headlights.

thanks!
you will probably be better off using these for a retrofit. The glue will most likely be fresh instead of years of sun baked goodness on the OEMs.
and I dont think these are smoked, it looks like it was just the camera angle and lighting that made it look a little darker. however they do have some with a black border that look pretty cool plus you get black corner lenses

This place has a location near me in NJ, how could these prices be true? They also have a hood w/scoop for 99+ selling for $64 along with the $98 a pair for 99+ headlights. Is this a parts wholesaler for insurance and shop owners?

I went ahead and bought the ones 01t4rnr suggested for 100ish shipped...I figured I'd rather pay 20 bucks more for "like new" OEM than ones off ebay.

thanks for the help guys! now I gotta convince the gf to buy me some retrofit projectors for our 5 year anniversary coming up

For anyone who is wondeirng, this is DEPO vs Stock 97... no need to retro fit the lenses.

I went to Certifit today and picked up two headlights - Depo brand like Nicks, they look pretty nice - total price for the two was $86. I plan on going back next week and getting a new front bumper: $76, lower valence: $16 and a new hood w/scoop for $65.

I'd be curious to know how the light pattern is compared to stock. Is there a brand/manufacturer or does it just say Cerifit? Same goes for the Depo as far as the light pattern... any feedback? I can testify Eagle Eye sucks bigtime.

Anything has to be better than what I have on there now - I got my Runner 2 weeks ago and I'm pretty sure they are the stock '98 lenses/lights. The light pattern on my stock '93 Camry gives off 5x better output than the current 4Runner headlamps. I figured it was worth a chance since they were only $43 each. I can put new bulbs in these if the light pattern is really bad, correct?

I can't figure out how to put these things in - I was never good at replacing headlights, my father is on vacation next week and said he will help me put them in.

I went to the parts counter at Certifit and bought them, they are Depo brand - made in Taiwan(not crazy about that, was hoping they would be made in Japan) but again, the price is right. I do plan on adding some lights too, I like how Nick has his lights built into his lower valance, I'll prob do something like that.

Yeah the output on the Depo's are much better. My ellphone camera sucks in the dark, or I would show you a picture.

That's good to hear Nick, where did you guys get the clear corner lenses? How hard was it to install your foglights in the lower valance?

thanks brian i may get those. The ones i posted are in fact plastic. I contacted the guy selling them. so Im not sure the downfall of the plastic but something tells me they're probably not going to last. maybe turn yellow??

Plastic gets a white haze after a while and needs to be polished and eventually replaced. Glass breaks when rocks kick up. Your call.
Also, Tahts a GREAT price.

I got "A" condition OEM ones from car-parts from a junkyard in Pennsylvania (~100ish). you could perhaps check there if you want originals

yeah for me (i know this isn't my thread) but iv'e called around to the different salvage yards here and most of them are asking 100 for a single light.

I was in same situation but then I checked "USA" and not just Texas...texas results were giving me $100 per headlamp as well. You could do a nationwide search and get them shipped to you! I am anxiously waiting for you to start your projector retrofit man! whats taking so long!!! :D

ok ill check the USA one out, but oh man LOL a sadly got this email the other day.

We are sorry but part of your order is temporarily out of stock.

TRS tries to avoid backorders, but sometimes they happen due to high demand, extended lead times, customs clearance, and holidays.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

Estimated Ship Date: February 25, 2011

which is ok cause im pretty sure im going to order a 2nd pair of lights so i can play with them a little before i finalize the project. I've built some corner pieces and chromed them so the Amber LED stips will look good in the headlights (not ricey) ill update my thread when i get everything though
