2 tracks I've considered are ( as Texmax suggested )
- Get a 4x4 and restore it
- Keep mine and restore it
Looks like the restore costs are going to be
roughly the same regardless of which track is taken.
I'd need to sale mine to offset the cost of purchasing another 4x4.
Once everything is taken into consideration, I feel I can expect a $20k bill. Maybe save $7k in labor costs if I do it all myself. (which some of I may be able to - time vs. money issue)
Interesting thought experiment. Thank you for all the advice. Now I need to figure out what I want to do.
I've been intouch with a local shop that sees a lot of 4runner (had 4 there while we're speaking). Unfortunately (actually maybe fortunately) they do not do paint/body work. Only mechanical. So this might be the direction I go. Have everything mechanical taken care of, dry ice blast the underside, coat what I can get to, call it a day. More than likely that would cut a lot of cost off instead of trying to tackle getting body off just to get to frame. Just leave it on and work around it.
