Hey...I'm new to the website. Just recently I got together enough money to trade in my 1985 4runner for a newer 1993 model. I absolutely love it. The body has a few dings and scratches, but it runs like a horse. I go to school in South Carolina and have a good part time job...so most of my money goes into my truck. So far I've added a few basic mods, like better tires and wheels, a rack for my gear, and a few other simple things. Lately tho, I've really been looking into how to improve my ride. I do a lot of trail riding and off roading at the local spots in my area...and my baby holds up pretty well. It could do better tho. If anyone with a little free time and a knowledge of 4runners could give me some upgrade advice, it would be greatly appreciated. I should have a few pictures up soon, too... Thanks fellas..

If you want to improve the ride, then you should consider changing out your shocks. Of course, you can do a lot more, like a body lift (with OME springs and shocks, which are $$$$) or change out the anti-roll bars (for on-road handling).
If you want simplicity, then do just the shocks. Edelbrock and Bilsteins are the two most common companies that are used by 2nd gen 4runner owners. I am not a big fan of Bilsteins because of my experience with them in my '02 4runner: see http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=343
The Eldebrock shocks have a bypass valve that they claim to provide good handling AND a comfortable ride. Bilsteins provide good handling with a very firm ride.
Both shocks are excellent for off-roading. Edelbrock now offers both twin-tube (low-pressure) and monotube (high pressure) shocks with their patented IAS valve.
Bilsteins are monotubes.
However, both edelbrock and Bilsteins are on the expensive side for shocks. If you want something cheaper (and you don't off-road much), then consider Monroe Sensatrac shocks. They provide a nice ride (similar to OEM/stock).
