Questions on Eclipse headunits.

The sound quality stomps the Eclipse in everyway.. The Eclipse units don't have any sound shaping options other then a EQ. It has no crossovers and the bass sounds horrible...

Your telling me!!! I waited since April to get the unit and then find out NO steering wheel controls, NO Sirius and the sound quality sucked. I would sound better if they gave a digital crossover, parametric eq, digital time alignment, speaker settings, SRS WOW and so on like the Kenwood has.. The sub out on the Eclipse deck is not a dedicated sub line out. So you get full range music and must rely on your amps to take out all the unwanted frequencies. It will be the last Eclipse product I buy for awhile. What's sad is they have head unit's with all the bells and whistles in Japan but you can't get them here. For a unit that costs $2300 it better have everything a audiophile needs. I still can't believe how much better the Kenwood sounds. Go for the Kenwood Excelon DDX8017 its the flagship DD unit. Its the same unit as the Kenwood Excelon KVT-915 and the XXV-05 all wrapped up in a double din version. I used to have the KVT-915 and at that time it was the best audio/video deck I've heard and now its in the DD version.. Just with all the tweaking the Kenwood offers you can get to sound just like you want.

just installed a 5435......I'm lovin it....I had an Alpine, something something (the one w/ the iPod interface).......to me the Eclipse has way better sound. The Alpine had the time correction and was infinitely adjustable..........I think it was TOO adjustable.
I would get it dialed (after A LOT of time and hassle).....but it would sound great on one CD then sound like total $hit on the next one.
The Eclipse has a better appearance, and better sound.....IMO.
Still not sold on the Sirius after having XM for 3 years, but it seems OK.
The nav is simply awesome......very intuitive.....only had to crack the manual once so far.
I am an appraiser......I can input 4-5 properties, and put them in any order.....switch the order......seems spoot on for accuracy so far.
I definitely recommend it.

For a OEM head unit replacement, your right the AVN5435 would be fine. If you want to run monitors, amps and high end speakers then look at something else. The AVN is lacking a lot of basic features that even the cheapest decks have..
