Quick B&M Cooler Question

I am about to install the B&M 70268 Tranny Cooler on my 98 Runner. I wanted to ask how the results have been for guys that have had the cooler on theirs for awhile? Any negative effects? Also, once installed how do I confirm that it is cooling properly. Thanks for any replies.

I have noticed no negative effects... I cannot imagine any, really.

On a 98 I believe the only way to tell it works (it will work) would be to install a temp gauge in the line to the cooler.

Thanks for the quick responses. I had read that post (which is great) and several more. However, I had not found any follow ups on how the coolers were performing over time or if anyone had experienced any problems with them. That said, what kind of mileage can a person expect out of an externally cooled transmission that has been serviced regularly and never towed anything?

Glad to hear you got it on. Your question about life is kind of loaded... it probably isn't going to make a big difference from a properly maintained stock cooled tranny, except that it is less likely to fail catastrophically. If you tow alot and drive the tranny beyond the stock cooler capability, then it might make a difference, but the point here isn't to "extend the life" per-se (for normal use, not towing), but rather prevent a catastrophic failure from milkshake.

What year is your runner? If it's 99+ then I recommend just getting a scangauge. It's a little pricey, but you can program it to read ATF temps from the stock sensor, and you get 3 other gauges as well displayed. If it;s older than 99, then yeah, I'd say go for an inline temp sensor and add a gauge to your dash somewhere. I like being able to see the tranny temp.
