Quick question about AC before purchasing a 98

OK, I live in Florida where it gets hot and humid. My brother owns a 98 (for the last 5+ years) and I have never been all that impressed with the AC system. It works, and it gets cold, but it is far from other cars I have been in, where even on the hottest of days, low will be more than enough.

So is this possibly a problem with his AC, or are 98's in general not that great in this regard?

Thank you very much in advance for any help on this matter. I have found a very good deal, but it is too far of a drive to just go and see how cold the AC is. The owner claims it works good, but feedback from you guys would be fantastic.

I also live in FL, with a black truck no less, and have had no such issues with the AC in my '00. Med to low keeps me plenty cool. I'm fairly confident the system is the same. You may want to have his AC system purged and refilled at a reputable shop, bare minimum it sounds like he could as some more r134a in the system.

Maybe it needs to be serviced. I find the A/C in 3rd gens to be better than my other cars. In 90 degree weather it's like being in a fridge. I can recall starting to feel cold with the A/C on.

If it hasn't been recharged it probably needs it. My 01 needed it after ten years. I am in south Texas which is very hot and have no issues. I rarely run it on high except when starting out.
