Quicksilvr's Build Thread

I'm getting it buttoned back up today after work. Last night I used a wire wheel on the trans pan.....took the FIPG right off, and didn't hurt the pan at all. I need to look up the torque spec for the filter and for the pan bolts.....

My dad, sister and I all attended the 96th running of the Indy 500 this weekend. We drove the 4Runner for the trip, and it was a great time. 17 hour round trip, and the drives there and home both went effortlessly. I did snap a couple pictures of the gas mileage I was getting. I was pleased. :)

In this pic, the fuel light had JUST come on. It kind of made me mad, because I wanted to take one with it saying 300miles...and fuel light not even on yet. lol

And I also have a nice piece of goody-goody waiting to be installed.

URD AFR Calibrator II. I decided I'm not going to mess with a meth kit anytime real soon, because the truck drives great and it's just my daily driver. When I start dumping more money into it down the road, and want more power....water/meth injection will most definitely be added.

But for now, I just want more fuel in closed loop. Every single day I briefly see low boost many MANY times. And all those times, the ECU is still in closed loop and giving me 14.7 AF/R. This URD piece is even already pre-programmed with a nice fuel map for adding some fuel in closed loop. I doubt I'll have to mess with adjusting the map at all.

Which octane do you use?

I try and put in at least 91 for the highway; I have always seemed to get better mileage using it.

I only use 93 from BP. It's the only station that consistently has 93 as their premium. In the midwest, a lot of stations premium is 91. I will use 91, but I prefer the 93 from BP. Seems to be good gas from my experience. It's what I used in my '06 GTI as well, and it always gave me good economy and consistent performance in that car, so I figured I'd use it in the 4Runner. And it's a safe bet so far.

That's some great mileage. When I went down to Florida from Indy I'd get to about 265mi before my light came on...surprised me. You had a hot day at the track too...I grew up 5 min from the track, so I've been to more than a few races. We were out there in Fri. For Carb Day and it was scorching.

I suppose you have to run higher octane because of the supercharger... lucky for me I don't AND I live at elevation so I can get +300 on 85 octane... ;-)

Nice job on the PM!

Yes, I hear Carb Day is pretty popular, more locals go to it than the race. We actually set a record, hottest race day in race history. It was pretty hot, but I was wearing SPF100 and drinking lots of water. Still an enjoyable race for sure!

Nice URD stuff!

Isnt awesome mileage so much fun? Yay for superchargers, lol.

Yep, quite enjoyable! I'm just glad it's running good and I don't feel like I'm driving a huge gas guzzler.

Yes, that would be great. :) PM?

Sounds like a great trip. Makes me wish I had gotten pics of mine when I drove it home. 350 miles with no gas light!

That is impressive. With this rig, I think I could hit like 320-330 if I really drove it easy, and cruised a little slower. I was averaging 75mph most of the time.

Oh yeah. We're headed to Colorado in 3 days!!!

Newest real update is that I received my new tires today. Toyo Open Country A/T II, 265/75, load C. They look awesome, and I should have them mounted by the end of this week. And of course some pictures.

I'm thinking about swapping my tall '99 coils into the front, and putting a 1.5" spacer on top of the rear coils so that I have the exact same setup that I did on my '99. It should look pretty good with the 265/75's. In summary, not a lot going on with my truck these days. lol

How much does 93 cost??? 93 is kinda hard to find up North... even though we are a massive oil/gas producing country. Kinda ironic - we ship extract it and ship it South to get it processed and buy it back for way more. Smart Canada. lol end rant.

Have you guys ever does a cost/mileage analysis? I'm curious what it looks like considering the premo fuel costs. A S/C lurks in my mind on a daily basis.

wtf. I'll be lucky if I get 300 KM's on a tank..... wow I'm jealous. Must be nice living at sea level.

Blah blah, good gas mileage....

Right now, 93 is at $3.25/gal. It's been fluctuating between $3.15 and $3.55 since I've owned the truck.

The higher elevation you are, the lower octane requirement, because there are not at many O2 molecules being crammed into the cylinder at any given time, boosted or not. 91 octane would be plenty for you rickashay, and 89 would probably be fine at elevations above 7k feet.

And no, I've never put a calculator to it to figure out exactly how much more or less i'm spending paying for premium gas, but getting decent MPG because of the blower. I consistently get 250 miles on 15 gallons of gas. Corrected for tire size, that's ~17mpg average....and 75% of that 17mpg driving is in town, stop and go, idling, etc. At $3.25/gal, each fillup is basically $50.

300kilometers a tank is only what, 180-190 miles? Ouch. With how much I have to drive, I've be forced into a car if I was only getting that. WHich is the main reason I didn't lift it, and put 33's and armor on it. Sadly.

Great response and very interesting. When the time comes I may be grilling you with questions! Wow, your fuel is cheap. I pay $1.05/L for fuel, there's 3.79L/US Gallon. That means for 87 Octane, I pay $3.99/Gallon (assuming an equal currency). Premium owners up here would pay $4.55/Gallon. WOW

I usually get 300KM's per tank, in the winter (poorer fuel due to additives for cold), idle time, all city (stop-and-go) style, on my 33's. I can squeeze out 480kms on the highway though. I've seen 22mpg in the summer, lifted, with tires, fully loaded in perfect conditions. I consider my rig to be in pristine mechanical condition so I'm surprised that you boosted folk can get that kind of mileage. Granted, my truck is no longer a lightweight SUV.

Sorry to think out loud and clog your build thread. Just sharing some of my observations I guess. I see an S/C in my future when I get a DD though.

BTW - your "edited" picture above looks awesome. Super clean and functional 4Runner. Diggin those tires as well!

Woah, I'm digging these new Toyos. So did you end up going with the P, LT, or Extremes? It looks as if you at least went with the LTs because these things look beefy. I was dead set on getting Duratracs for my next tire but after seeing these I'm going to have to rethink it.

Make sure you update us in a few months so we can see how the tires are treating you!
