Quicksilvr's Build Thread

omg wow that is a great looking truck, IJM is so sexy, and those steelies work so well with the trucks, and bonus points for ron paul for president

I would love to see some Savage Offroad sliders on this bad boy!

I've got a set of sliders (the Rocky Road SuperSliders listed in my sig). But they need sandblasted and re-powdercoated. I just haven't gotten around to having them done, since I don't need them on the truck. I think I'll get them done this fall though, having them on the truck will help keep the rockers in better shape this winter. Before I re-install them, I also need to clean the paint and factory coating off the rockers and do some bedliner or something. The factory coating has chipped in spots, and there is surface rust starting. I need to get rid of all that, and then seal them up real good with something durable. THEN the sliders can go on and not be in the way.

lol. I need to be more observant next time, I should've read your sig first.:redbrick: But in any case the slider you chose will really dress up your truck real good, let alone protect the rockers and doors from potential damage.

Can't wait to see them on dude!:thumb3:

I know the scoop isn't fuctional on 4runners but I want one for some reason, makes them look mean or tough or something.

I'll post since I've just started reading your build. Great lookin 3rd gen man. For some reason BFG ATs look better on these trucks than anything else. I have them on my jeep and they just don't do it for me. I think I'm gonna suggest them to my father for his next set, the mickeys aren't wearing too great.

Oh and your issue with the track bar (panhard bar) not lining back up is a given issue once you lift the vehicle and disconnect it whilst working on it. It's the only thing locating the rear axle laterally so when that gets disconnected, the rear axle is free to move left/right. Generally, when you lift the vehicle, the rear axle is going to pull to the left (because the body/frame mount should be mounted on the right side and the axle mount on the left). The come along was the same thing we did when I did my lift on my jeep. That's the only thing I dislike about coil sprung rears vs leaf springs to be honest. You're putting a lot of stress on that mount now that you basically had to force the axle back over into the mount and bolt it back up. I would get it reinforced, get a relocation bracket welded on or get an adjustable panhard bar.

I'm in the process of making a panhard drop bracket for it. Using 2.5" receiver tubing, and then I'lll reinforce it pretty good when I weld it on. I'll also put a piece of tubing inside the original mount location, so it doesn't collapse like some have seen happen.

This is here is by far my favorite photo, wallpaper worthy!

Great shots of a beautiful 4runner, nice job!

Quick, congrats on finally getting the lift & tires installed. The setup looks great & of course, I dig the raked stance. On to the next big thing... hopefully it doesn't take another 5 years!

Thanks! lol, yes lets hope I get the next stuff done quicker. Really there is only one big project left, and that is to clean and recoat the rockers then reinstall the sliders. Everything else I need to do is kinda just small beans. And I'm not buying bumpers or a supercharger or gears or anything for this truck, probably ever. So it's basically done. Which is fine by me! I've got enough other stuff to keep my busy. However, if for some reason a bunch of $$ lands in my lap....hmmm....all those aforementioned items might suddenly appear in my garage....

Well, they're not quite dialed in, and here's the story.

I took the truck to a good shop (one I trust, and they know their stuff). I showed the service manager the little card that comes with the tires that says the tires need to be static balanced, and that Treadwright recommends splitting the weight between inside and outside in the single location that the weight is needed. David (the service manager) says he's never heard of doing that, and it seems a little goofy, but they'll do it since it's recommended. So they did. Tires ride fine below 50mph, but anything past that I start getting vibes. David told me the kicker is this: if you set the machine for "static" balance, but then apply weights to the inside AND outside rim, it throws the whole thing out of whack and it'll just keep telling you to add weight in different places. So basically by splitting the weight, you can't check the balance. You just do it, then call it good.

I'm going to take it back, and have them do a completely normal static balance (all the weight on the inside). That way they can verify that the wheels actually balance and we'll see what we get. If they can't get them to balance by doing a regular static, then I'm going to be calling Treadwright and getting some new tires. I'm hopeful that a traditional static balance (not splitting the weight inside and out) will get the job done.

Nice lift and nice pics! So many of your pics make your ride look black and others make it look like it's a DEEEEEP green. I love it.

That sucks. Yeah the balancing is the only thing that worries me about them.

I run them. 2 came in with sidewall damage. I couldn't mount them.

QS - Mine are fine at freeway. I put 1000 freeway miles on them this past 2 weeks and they ride fine with a STD balance.

Sorry, missed your post the first time, thanks man! I have to hide the not-so-perfect paint with perfect lighting. lol

Thanks! IJM is really nice paint color in my opinion....and I actually don't like green all THAT much.

When you say STD balance, do you mean standard static? Or standard dynamic? Just wondering. I'm having them rebalanced today, and we'll see what we get. I also thought about just buying some dynabeads and adding them to the wheels AFTER having them static balanced. Let the beads do the final balancing and fine tuning.

You know I am not sure. Whatever the cheaper or more common way is I guess. I went to the cheapest place I could find to get them balanced, a used tire place. Based on the shack I went to, it was probably the cheapest machine that works. I'll give them a call or stop by in the next couple days to see what they use. I am running FJ wheels if that makes a difference. I heard that std 4runner wheels dont balance out well, but not sure if thats true.

I wouldnt do TW again though given the hassle they gave me on getting the 2 damaged tires replaced. They tried to get me to keep 1 of them because they said it wasnt that bad, even though the installer refused to put it on. One of them was slashed down to the steel belts! It could have been just shipping damage.
