Well, they're not quite dialed in, and here's the story.
I took the truck to a good shop (one I trust, and they know their stuff). I showed the service manager the little card that comes with the tires that says the tires need to be static balanced, and that Treadwright recommends splitting the weight between inside and outside in the single location that the weight is needed. David (the service manager) says he's never heard of doing that, and it seems a little goofy, but they'll do it since it's recommended. So they did. Tires ride fine below 50mph, but anything past that I start getting vibes. David told me the kicker is this: if you set the machine for "static" balance, but then apply weights to the inside AND outside rim, it throws the whole thing out of whack and it'll just keep telling you to add weight in different places. So basically by splitting the weight, you can't check the balance. You just do it, then call it good.
I'm going to take it back, and have them do a completely normal static balance (all the weight on the inside). That way they can verify that the wheels actually balance and we'll see what we get. If they can't get them to balance by doing a regular static, then I'm going to be calling Treadwright and getting some new tires. I'm hopeful that a traditional static balance (not splitting the weight inside and out) will get the job done.
