$700 for Tundras/5100's from Sonoran? You have to be kidding me. I will have $250 into mine once I get my 5100's on.

quick, you should just send those sliders my way before you sell your 4runner...
 
Final post: The rig is sold to t4r.org user DirtDawg. I'm sure he will take great care of the truck, and I wish him the best with it.

I plan to buy another 4runner in a year or two. Until then, I will still be around. Probably just about as much as before. lol
 
Ok, I'm going to just continue this build thread with my new truck. I'm not doing very much to the new one for a while, so continuing my original thread makes ok sense. Plus then it's easy for people to see which rigs I've had.



I just purchased a 2001 SR5, all stock....but with a 4th gen TRD Supercharger. No fuel mods, no nothing. Just the S/C bolted on. The truck is really nice and clean, not perfect, but nice. I'm in the process of doing all the important maintenance items, then hopefully a few fun things too. This is my only vehicle right now, so it's a daily driver extraordinaire. I only have a couple pics right now, sorry.

One of the biggest upgrades I've done to the truck so far!! LED's!!!! WHoo hooo!!!


Seriously though. This is hot stuff. The pictures make them look a little orange, but they are blood red in real life. I like it a lot. I'd done white in the past, and I don't know if I like this better or not. Probably like it equally. I need to change my clock color, and then take a picture with the clock changed, and with my SGII mounted with the red backlight. It all looks pretty good.

The PRND21 indicator lights, the key ring, and the turn signals I did orange. I knew I wanted the turn signals orange instead of red, so I just kind of followed that accessory light theme through. I also used a white LED in the center of the HVAC, so the color temp wheel still looks accurate.

No, I was primed and ready to use wax paper....but it wasn't even necessary with these bulbs. There are a couple barely noticeable hotspots, but nothing that was worth taking the gauge overlay's off and taping wax paper in there.
 
Here are some real pictures of the truck as of today. It badly needs 265/75's and my '99 springs. But I don't know how long that will take. It works great right now, just doesn't look great. I have to keep my self satisfied with the "working great" for a while.

You can see the funky dent in the right fender. I'm going to have a really good PDR guy I know take it out...problem is he lives 2 hours away, so it might be awhile before I make the trip up there. But I'm already used to the dent and it stopped bothering me.
 
I installed a JL Audio 10" sub last night, and it's pretty sweet. I've never had a sub in any of my vehicles before. Actually, I've taken them out when I buy one that has them. But in my defense, I was always taking out big 2 12" boxes....and I just installed a single 10".


Anyway, the truck already had a little Alpine MRP-F250 amp running all the components. So I just switched some wiring around, bridged channels 3 and 4 to the sub and it was done. I got the amp dialed in today, and now I look forward to listening to my tunes in the truck because it sounds damn good! Plus by running my components in parallel (just using channels 1 and 2), I dropped the resistance to 2ohms, so I get a little more power from the little Alpine. Seems to be working very well so far.

And I received my Yakima wind deflector. Works perfect, no more howling. And I'm still getting 19 mpg, including a lot of in town driving. Easy does it on the throttle. :)

I think it looks great. :shrug:

RE the sub, nice addition. I've always thought that 4Runners lend themselves to great bass output, even from a simple setup, because they have similar acoustics to a hatchback vehicle.

So, any word on changing out/inspecting the oil in the nose cone? Did you take the belt off and check the bearings?
 
A sound system is something I've yet to add to my truck, and I'll probably
do it the way you did with a single 10"...just enough to give a good thump and doesn't take up space in the cargo area.

Ha..bet you find better excuses now just so you could use your truck whipping around town listening to your tunes, now that you got a good sound system, eh?..:naughty:

You're right, it looks good. It's just low....I wish it was taller. The 4Runner is awesome for sound systems, my sister's rig sounds even better than mine because she has a better amp and a better sub.


I think I'm good on the nose cone honestly. I took the belt off and spun it around....it spins quietly and pretty freely. I mean, it won't just free spin because of the drag, but it's very smooth. And as far as lash goes, I could BARELY feel a little gap when rocking the pulley back and forth. It was so tiny the pulley didn't even visibly move. I haven't sucked that oil out though. I'm going to let it ride for another week or so, since everything seems good at this point.

A single 10" in a sealed box with a good amp powering the components too....it's a golden setup for a 4Runner. You don't lose the space, like you said, and it sounds awesome. Oh yes, I find excuses to drive the truck all the time. :tongue:
 
The new rig is looking GREAT! Good to see you back in one. I have a 12" sub that I yanked from my Tacoma. Eventually I think I'll incorporate it into my rear cargo box. The plan is to make it totally modular, so I can have multiple options for layout. I need to get on that. Seeing your sub makes me miss hearing the lows. I'm not into earth shattering bass, but it does make music sounds a whole lot better!

Thanks man! Yeah, a little bumpin' bass helps a LOT. I can turn the mids up a little to hear guitar nuances without it sounding like crap now. Without a sub, too much mid sounds cheap and tinny. Very nice.


How many miles on your rig now? I keep seeing 71k in your sig, and thinking thats unbelievable. Then I realize you have a few more than that by now....

Ha! Still only 75k! Wow. I bought this one with 185k, and I'll roll over 200k this year.....



In other news. I threw my old '99 springs in the rear of the truck today real quick. Man, it's easy putting small springs in. It raised the rear about 1.2 inches, and now the rear sits at 35" and the front at 34". Looks mucho gusto in my opinion. Now that it sits nice, I'll wait to lift it any more until I get bigger tires.
