came up on search, don't know if it's for the later transmission, I didn't call
I did come across this to. I would have to call them. Because it says r150 and not r150f.
Marlin comes out to almost 2k. Subtract the core and it’s about $1400 for new one
Up to you. Not the worst price to me, but then again I'm not pissed at any three of my 4Runners. Plus I'd rather pay freight than drive over there. And Marlin is a respected name in these forums, so if it fails you can roast the piss out of his company.
Yup. I understand what your saying. At this point. I don’t know. I’m so ****ing pissed. First transmission makes a weird raddle/tic/knock noise in 3rd gear.
This transmission doesn’t make noise in gears. But it makes a noise when you bang gears. It sounds like something is loose inside and flapping. Also, it vibrates the truck at some speeds. You can feel a vibration when you give it gas or let of the gas. And really feel it if you maintain certain speed. Hard to describe it. But long story short. When you switch gears/ bang gears. You feel something in there being lose. And vibrations at higher speeds. As if a shaft or bearing is bad.

Yes, LUK bearing/rebuild kit.Rear end has LUK stuff ?
LUK bearings are made by a German bearing company been around over 100 years. Transmission shops use them. The transmission shop got all the parts and rebuilt my transmission and rear end, I'm not the one that did the rebuild. I'm not sure where they ordered them from.Is there a website to LUK? Or phone number ?
Yeah 40K for $600, nice but skeptical on that verification. I scored a backyard 5 speed, guy wanted $400 I offered $250 and he accepted. Said it had 125K out of wreck. Couldn't verify mileage cause was not in vehicle. I had it torn open to verify condition, was nice condition.Yeah apparently. But they said they do rebuilds. Just that they don’t sell it. And I can’t find r150f rebuild for 3rd gen. I think at this point I’ll just bite the bullet and go to PA New Castle. 6 hour drive. Apparently it’s 40k transmission for $600
By the way, im getting really annoyed with 3rd gen. As much as they last long and reliable. This has been nothing but a headache. Almost after every trail ride there is something wrong with it. Ive been fixing shit left and right. And all the parts ARE OEM. I don't cut corners.
Just curious man but how many miles do you have your truck and who many of those years were you the owner? Also what are all these problems. I know you've posted about them but do you mind giving a quick list?
I agree mate. Very well put. I did drive a 2018 tacoma TRD. And it was a great ride. Felt very nice. But they want $42k for TRD off road. OUCH!!I also have sunroof leak and the only way I fixed it is by living in San Diego.
Re the alternators I've have had good luck with quality oem refurbished.
Sorry to hear about the rest of the issues. That sounds super frustrating.
I just recently thought about what I would spend to fix vs replace. My interior is top notch and my paint is good, suspension is great. I'm on my second engine and first auto trans.
After driving one there is no way I would buy a 5th gen. If I had to get a new truck it would probably be a new Tacoma 6-speed manual with TRD (not pro) and switch the tires to 31.5s with some grip. My buddy has a 17 and it literally can go near everywhere I go in my 3rd gen. These latest Tacoma's are quite capable. I did not like the latest 4Runner when I did a rental car test drive.
Why I'm making my 4Runner "the adventure vehicle" for next 10 years...
Forgive the thought stream but let's say I bought a new/used 4Runner for $35K. Tax man plus registration will be $3500 on day 1. Gone. Let's look at one year of payments .... Say $650 a month that is $7,800 in car payments in year one. Year one cost = $11,300 just for the privilege of owning a stock 5th gen. Sure maybe years 2-5 of payments might be offset slightly by sale value of my built rig but still that is a lot of cash ... And for what?
.
I got the truck with 174k. Two months later the head gasket went. So now it has a JDM ever since. Currently it’s sitting at 240k. Since then, it had a manual swap. First manual transmission went. Now about 1 year later sounds like this one is going to. It has a slap noise when going through gears. But if you shift really really smoothly/ slow. Then it’s notning. The oem alternator took a dump. I’m going to be on my 3rd ACDELCO Cadillac alternator, in two months. Besides those, it had couple other headaches. Rear shock hoop rusted through. Had to weld new one. Replaced all front end with OEM. Replaced all rear end bushings. I have not cut corners on my truck. Everything is oem. From steering rack to all the belts. Spark plug wires and coils. Even replaced oem fuel injector.
The sunroof was leaking.
