Radar Detector

I know in some states in the (extremely liberal :bash: ) east coast, radar detectors are illegal, which would warrant a ticket for but definetly not pulled out and smashed on the ground.

Actually the only state that radar detectors are illegal in is Virginia which I assure you, is not by any means liberal.

I could have sworn there were a handful of states where they are illegal, including WA DC:confused: Also, don't forget that thaey are not allowed on military bases either! 100 mph on motorcycle plus radar detector plus MP = bad time!

keyword being states.

Virginia is the only state where they are illegal, they are however also illegal in Washington DC

Arrested...and jailed more than once! Not much better than here in Las Vegas where our mayor is a drunken ex mob attorney! I almost want to become a resident just to vote him out but he will always win because he panders to casinos...

i have the passport X50 and bel express 935... they're pretty good... i still look out for cops though, i just got pulled over last month, cops says "i guess your radar detector didn't work"

Do they both detect laser?? Also, where do you mount them and do you have tinted windows??

i have the V1 and i love it. i have it hard wired in and i cant tell u how many times its saved me haha cant beat those arrow that tell ware detecting somthing

i believe there also illegal in connecticut

For those of you who have a V1 or other radar detector hardwired in: Where and how did you do this? ..and about that mute button as well? Any pictures would be great! Thanks in advance! :)

I love my Escort Solo,, it's wireless you can place it anywhere on your windshield without having the power cord interfering, you can take it down in a sec when unmarked patrol cars are around, great during instant on radar and laser. I for the most part don't do more than ten miles over the limit and the radar detector keeps my eyes on the road and not trying to look for the police with the radars.

Figured I will bring this thread back from the dead.

Rocky Mountain Radar is basically as good as it gets. The technology for their detectors is designed by some of the people who design radar guns for the cops. So when the cops come out with a new type of radar, like POP for example, Rocky Mountain Radar simultaneously comes out with a detector that will detect it, whereas older models will not be able to pick it up.

They also have great Combo detectors which I have, which scrambles the signal of the radar gun so they don't see your speed. Works great in case you don't slow down in time after the detector goes off, you are still safe.

For starters, i don't mean to nag, but your sig is WAAAYYYY too big. :p

Before you buy into RMD's bogus crap, i'd do some research. The following is a review by RadarTest.com.

RMR_D550.jpg

Rocky Mountain Radar RMR-C450 ($269.95)

Rocky Mountain Radar receives credit for inventing the bogus radar jammer, an event we were the first to inform the world about well over a decade ago. (Automobile magazine, "The Little Jammer That Couldn't", June 1993). Then they introduced the bogus laser jammer, which we amply documented in stories for Automobile, the BMW Roundel, Car Audio and Electronics, AUTOTronics and a host of other magazines, both here and abroad.

More recently, Rocky Mountain Radar hooked up with a Korean manufacturer of cheap radar detectors and bingo, here's the RMR-C450, a radar detector that RMR claims can also magically jam all radar and lasers. When introduced, it was known as the RMR-D450. Rocky Mountain Radar has a long history of immediately renaming their products as soon as word spreads in the media that they're ineffective. (Within weeks of my 1993 Automobile magazine story hitting the newsstands, they'd already relabeled both of their jammers.) This strategy also gives RMR what appears to be a broad product lineup, despite the fact that all of their working models (the jammer-only models are complete hoaxes) are based on only three platforms, meaning that six to eight models can be identical inside, differing only in appearance.

The jamming ability of the Rocky Mountain Radar RMR-C450 (or RMR-D450, take your pick; it's the same box) was nonexistent, failing entirely to jam any of the guns. (If you're truly curious, open its case; you won't find anything inside that's remotely capable of jamming anything.)

We did find, however, that by removing the Rocky Mountain Radar RMR-C450 from the dash and substituting its cardboard box, a slight reduction in maximum laser target range was achieved.

If you're looking for a less expensive alternative, Rocky Mountain Radar offers the Phazer II ($179.95), priced lower because it's not a detector and claims only to be a jammer. But having tested the Phazer, both the original and the Phazer II (look for a Phazer III not long after this story comes out), we can say with complete assurance that it jams absolutely nothing.

Bottom line: Save money: put an empty cardboard box on your dash instead.

I made my sig shorter, just for you cupcake. But just as you are telling me i'm wrong about the radar, how do you know that reviews about them are correct. Everything has opinions about them.

Tires on this forum are a great example. Everyone loves the tires that they just spent $600-$700 and none of them will back off of the idea that theirs are the best. Some people love their Revos or Scorpions, while others love their Nitto Terra Grapplers. It's kind of all opinion. Mine seems to work great. There are a few other brands that are just as good, I was just stating my opinion about it. It does what it's supposed to though, so that's all that really matters to me.

The only thing I wish they had that some brands do, is which direction the radar is coming from.

Thanks, it's much easier to browse through posts when an entire screen isn't allotted to your sig.... ;)

However, i don't think your analogy is relevant. Would you buy tires that claimed to hold air, but didn't?

They essentially proved that they lie about their detectors, did you read the article? There is absolutely NO jamming capability at all in them. Not even equipment inside the box to be capable of it. It's a scam, and they got called on it....

If you browse through that site, you'll see that the man running it is quite the expert on radar and his tests are very intricate.

All in all if your happy with your purchase, i suppose thats all that matters, i'm just trying to inform people of what i've found before i bought into their false marketing.

edit: more info....

An Owner Speaks

"I made a big mistake buying and relying on Rocky Mountain Radar's radar/laser detector/scrambler products. That's right, 'products' is plural. I've owned three...none of them worked."

Test Results

"The bottom line is that during our testing of these units we have NEVER found one unit to work. The RMR-C302 had no noticeable effect on our K band gun...and with the laser the RMR-C302 had no effect."

--Roy Reyer, retired cop and certified radar trainer.

"I tested Rocky Mountain Radar devices on two occasions... I can tell you without a doubt -- the jammers did not work at all! They did not jam radar, confuse radar, block radar, scramble radar, nor did they render a car invisible to radar. The same goes with police lasers: the jammers had no affect. Rocky Mountain Radar is ripping off consumers for millions of dollars and no one is doing anything about it."

"The [RMR Phazer and Phantom] score of "0" means the device had no jamming effect on laser guns what-so-ever!" --LaserRadar.com

http://www.faqtapes.net/laseradar.com/laser_wars.htm

"In reaction to past stories we've written for Automobile Magazine, the BMW Roundel, Mercedes Star, AutoTronics and Car Audio & Electronics, among others, the resourceful [RMR founder] Churchman quickly renamed these same boxes--the new appellations include Illusion, Shadow, Eclipse, Patriot and Avenger among others--and continued doing business without missing a beat. He's also produced several private-label versions with names like Barrier-RDR and Barrier-LSR. Except for the Phantom, which contains rudimentary radar-detection circuitry, each is essentially an empty box with a 12-volt power cord, a cheap cast-plastic waveguide assembly, one or two front-mounted LEDs, a basic power-supply circuit and a button or two. Press the button and an LED lights up, accompanied by a tinny bird whistle. We've tested these products a dozen times against every front-line police radar gun and laser, finding all of them utterly worthless."

Are there any brands that DO have jamming features that have good reviews? If you know of any that have reliable feedback on them, I don't mind switching. I haven't hard wired it or anything yet so I can take it out in less than 20 seconds.
