Radiator parts question

Radiator is leaking and so I have to replace it. Went to partznet to find one and found the OEM part #16400-31354 and retails for $432 (you can get it online for $299), but if you scroll all the way down you will find another radiator, part # 16410-AZ013, this one goes for $174 (you can order it for $120). I called them and asked what the difference between the both of them and was told Toyota offers a more economical one, but it is made for them. Comes in a Toyota box, so I dunno, I'm sort of confused. If it's cheaper, then it is of lesser quality??? Strange to me that Toyota offers 2 radiators.

Over at rockauto, I found a Denso for $99, with shipping comes to $122. Apparently this one comes with the transmission oil cooler. Not sure the OEM ones come with one too. I don't even think I need one, I thought it was inside the radiator or is the smaller one in front of the main one it?

1) OEM: $299
2) OEM aftermarket: $120
3) Denso (rockauto): $122 (with oil cooler)

Anyway, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

From wnat I have read most go with the Denso, or a Koyo for around the same price +/- and no complaints as far as I know.
 
Just replaced my rad 2 mo's ago

V6 tranny cooler is part of the rad, on the driver side. Has 2 hoses running into it. You can see it next to the battery.

From what I heard from a Toyota tech, Denso makes the radiator for Toyota. Koyo makes the radiator for Lexus. Either are the equivalent of an OEM radiator at a fraction of the cost.

I just replaced mine with a Koyo. Packaged well. Perfect fitment. I paid around $115 for mine. Just search online for the cheapest price.

03-09 V8 4.7L part number: A2581

03-09 V6 4.0L part number: A2580
 
Agreed, I almost always say OEM is a must but here I went with Denso a couple years ago and can't tell the difference between the two side by side. No issues. Save a couple bucks there.

Toyota parts guy here, I can tell you the AZ radiators are just as good of quality. The reason for the lower price is it is a locally made version of the OEM one. The OEM ones are sent over from Japan, thus the higher price. There are AZ brake pads too, same kind of thing. That's how it was explained to me.

That being said, I'd probably go with a Koyo. Comes factory installed on most Lexus models, top notch quality.
 
Thanks for your input guys, I ended up purchasing the hoses/serpentine belt from conicellitoyotaofconshohocken.com. The radiator (Denso) I got from Rockauto for $98 bucks. There was a time where I would've gotten the OEM for $299, but I'm suspicious of a supposed radiator that the DEALER sells (they religiously markup everything) for 1/3 of that.

I'll post pics of the rad when it comes in.
 
I replaced mine last year and went with a Denso, in a side by side comparison it was identical to the factory radiator and much cheaper than a factory unit. I also replaced the thermostat at the same time, that was bought from a online Toyota dealer because I wanted to make sure I had the right one.

Locally made? Well, that makes sense as to why it is much cheaper, thanks for the info!
 
Forgot to get a closeup comparo of the two. They are identical radiators. My friend thanked me for getting OEM hoses, LOL.

lower drivers side was leaking. For the longest time I though my HG was on it's way out and was asymptomatic (we all know it is gradual).

I just replaced my 2003 with a Denso from Rock Auto. It is identical to original one. I even found a Denso name on the old one. I also ordered new hoses, new thermostat, and cap. No more leaking. Old one was leaking on both ends on the engine side of the radiator with no drops or smell at all.

sorry, JUST seeing this.

Symptoms (that I remember)
1) loss of fluid on the overfill tank (never stayed full)
2) Heat wasn't as strong

that's it. No other symptoms like you mentioned (waterfall sounds, low rad level).
