Radiator Reservoir found empty (138k miles)

CaptSolo, Are you sure you dont have a “knock off” Chinese Toyota 4runner. Your claims just dont match the forums experiences. As far as water pumps go, they are cheap and easy to replace. I dont wait to have mine fail. I replace the water pump and radiators at either 10 years or 100k miles. I dont have to, but I do it for peace of mind. Because when they fail, its never at a convenient time for me.

DrCoffee: To each his own. I check for drips below the engine of my 4runner all the time. Never had an overheat in 15 years. No "drips" either - exception = a once a week single drip of oil.

Toyotas are low maintenance unless you take them to the dealer.

I check the overflow canister from the radiator and if it ever down "any" I figure out why right away. The WP in there now is 15 years old - the OEM. Is that amazing, or what?

I have a aisin WP in the garage waiting for the first sign. Then I call a top mechanic (not the dealer) to the house.

I do my own spark plugs - but they are good for 100,000 miles today.
Engine oil and filters
2 gallons of coolant every 5 or 7 years and you are ready to go.
My 15 year old 4runner runs like it is new. I'm blown away.

I have more automotive knowlege in my pinky than you have attained in 73 years. Others on this forum know more than I do and I am happy and grateful to learn from them. I did! Thanks for asking. It was NAPA with lifetime warranty. Not using the dealer anymore for anything except maybe oil changes!
