Radio / Nav Rebooting

So I have had the 2019 TRD Odd road for 3 months, and today it reset a few tines and then it wouldn't even make it 30 seconds and then before I could get to the dealer the screen turned off and never turned on. The dealer ship said it is my phone that is doing it. I have no clue what to do. they reset it but the second I connected my phone it started rebooting the unit again so I turned off the Bluetooth. I need it for work when I am driving so this is a big issue for me. Anyone know what I can do? My phone is the note 8 so it's not a new phone and it worked for 3 months give or take and all of a sudden within a matter of a hour the head unit wouldn't even power on.

My 2016 TRD Pro is definitely triggered by my phone. It will only reboot when I try to initiate a phone call through BT. What usually happens is that the call goes through but I can't hear anything. I switch my iPhone X to handset mode and the system reboots. Once it comes back up it will take over the phone call again and all is good. Frustrating but I'm about to pull the trigger on an Alpine Halo 9 unit that will fix the issue.
Not sure if the wife's 2018 Pro has the issue or not but she hasn't mentioned anything.
All it take is for me to connect it and it starts rebooting every 30 seconds and after a hour it shuts down and doesn't even start up.

I was having issues with mine rebooting at random. It happened with my S7 and Note 9. I started googling it and found a link from Toyota that had the option to download an update to a thumb drive. Pug the thumb drive into the USB port and let it update. Took about 5 or 6 minutes and it has worked great ever since.

Same here in my 2014. Kept freezing/ rebooting every 40-50 minutes and did some googling and found an update from toyota. It has not happened since. :clap2:

Sorry to hear your troubles Signal. My best guess is that Toyota did an update on your head unit and the new software broke your pairing with your phone or a similar update with your phone.
Try this.
1. Reset your HU to factory specs
2. Reset the ECU....I think it simply by disconnecting the battery....need to check that procedure
3. Restart your phone
4. Check for phone updates
5. Pair
6. Hopefully fixed
Just a try on my end since I’ve seen similar things on computers!!

Try this.

My 2018 TRD Off Road started having this rebooting issue at 8.5k miles. First, I thought I could be because the front camera I put on or the grill amber light which linked to the fuse box under hood. All the rebooting happened when I press the brake paddle, but not every time I press the brake will lead a reboot.
I unplugged the 20amp radio fuse and 30amp amplifier fuse for about one hour. After plugged them back, I noticed the system seems reset, average MPG is gone, and other cellphone Bluetooth, except mine, are gone. And of course the rebooting issue is gone too, it has been two days, no problem at all.
only one thing need to mention, if you guys added front camera like I did. BTW, I used beat-sonic kit to add front camera. You may find after fuse reset, backup camera is gone when you drive reverse, the screen will not switch to back up camera view. But don't worry, solution is simple. I just disconnect the beat-sonic front camera kit from radio head and recover the hardness behind the radio head to OEM looks, then start the car and found back up camera is back. Then I turn off the car and reconnect front camera kit, then start the car, front camera is back too.

Held out for 92K miles!
So my head unit held out for 92K miles before having this issue. It started to happen a few days ago, and intermittently... the HU turned off/ rebooted after about 10 mins of drive time. The weird thing is that it did it for a day or two, then it stopped, then started back up again. Yesterday we drove around for a few hours and nothing. This morning, it rebooted about 8 or 9 times in the course of 2 hours. As usual, the help on this forum is friggin' AWESOME! You guys and gals all rock. I went to this site:

After a few of the usual prompt questions (year/ model) it led me to the instructions/ download page. You'll need a thumb drive with at least 2GB of free space - preferably blank (per the site instructions). The software version that downloaded for the 2015 4Runnerwas 0101D7, and the file name I downloaded is 13TDANNA-DA00_0215.kwi
It took maybe 10-15 minutes to upload to the 4runner, and after turning the ignition off/on again, the software was loaded and verified in the general settings tab, under software/ software history. It showed the software and the date uploaded. I'll post again tomorrow night with the results. Fingers crossed.

Well, no luck this morning. After about 15 minutes, the HU rebooted. After the reboot, the BT was turned off, and it worked fine. The next thing I'm going to try is the "hard reboot" others have suggested by removing the fuse, which should theoretically reset the radio to the original factory settings.
Wow Toyota... vehicles that cost literally HALF what our 4R's cost don't have these issues.

Long story short, they reset my radio and updated it. It worked for almost a year. Had 1 random reboot a couple months ago but nothing since. Hope this helps someone out.

There's another thread that supposedly has a solution- which I can't fully implement because I can't reset network settings right now due to not wanting to mess up a work VPN- in this thread:

I've tried just about everything else. Today I deleted the Music app as instructed and reinstalled (logged out, etc.)
So far, the best thing I've found is to remove your phone from the car settings, remove the car from your phone settings, then set them back up again and DO NOT SYNC CONTACTS. This means no messages or contacts on your car, but no reboots and you can listen to music, audiobooks, and podcasts.

Hey guys, I have 2016 TE and about a year ago I upgraded the software and everything worked fine up until about 6 months ago. At first it rebooted about once a month and it progressively got worst to now it reboots about 4-5 times in a 30 min. drive. I've tried all the solutions posted in this thread and the other one also and nothing works so far. Tried upgrading the SW on a flash drive won't accept because the update is older than what's currently installed, pulling the RAD fuse for > 5 hours etc. Nothing. I called the dealer and spoke to a service advisor and he said there is an update that only they can do that in most cases fixes this issue. This update is not available any other way. For $170 they will look at the unit and try this update and if it works the total cost is the $170. If not then the 170 could be applied to a repair. I've looked at the various other 3rd party head units but it's very unclear if XM radio will work and I have a few other concerns. I personally don't care too much about the old look of these. Just thought I would pass this on to see if anyone had the experience with Toyota fixing the problem for about $170. Also, he said when there are IOS updates the change somehow affects the head unit communicating with the phones and this eventually causes the problem. So even if the fix works I guess there's risk that future updates could cause the problem to resurface again. Sounds like badly written software to me.
