Radio Trim for 08 4Runner - Consensus

OK guys...read all the reviews on here of all the different dash kits for installing your Eclipse, Pio, Kenwood, etc double din radios. What is the final verdict? Or is there one? I'm getting ready to put in a Kenwood 8120 and I need to buy the kit. Is it Scosche or Metra?

I know this has been asked quite a few times...but there has GOT to be a final resolution. Or maybe their isn't. I'm leaning towards the new Scosche unless told otherwise! Thanks

Also...best place to buy? Scosche directly?

It depends on which stock radio you have....if you've got the base (non-JBL) radio, I have not seen a great option as of yet. The Metra kit fills the gaps on the sides, but leaves a small gap at the top and bottom of the radio. It's not "that" bad, unless you are really picky (as I am).

If you have the JBL radio, I have not installed one myself, but it sounds like most all of them work reasonably well.

If you come up with anything better for the non-JBL radio, please share.

Ah yes...forgot to mention that. I have the 10 speaker JBL system in mine. Of course after it's said and done it will only be 6 and a sub.

What are peoples thoughts on keeping the center? Is it really needed? I was going to leave it out for now, but be able to add it later on down the road.

FYI...mounted my sub amp today. Came out pretty good. Will post pics and details later on.

well I'm not impressed with the Metra kit on a non-jbl... fills the gaps fine but even for $10 it's a PoS. Warped, scuffed old bits of plastic with a texture that looks nothing like any other piece of dash. I'll be trying the Scosche next, although in photos it looks very similar to the metra.
