Lazily copied from my build thread. I LOVE this thing!!! Especially how factory it looks as its an exact fit......
The only real addition I've done lately is adding in a Chinese (Joying) Android HU, JY-TQ123 ($300 PRIME shipping). I preferred this model as it exactly fits the OEM opening size (~200mmx100mm) and I HATE the look of most filler pieces i've seen that go into the universal double-din installs.
I've only recently been turned on to these but they sounded awesome from what little research i've done if you can deal with a more DIY trouble shooting side involved in little to no customer support. Having said that, I bought mine specifically from Joying-USA on Amazon and the POC there has been very response in emailed questions. Supposedly comes with a 2 year warranty and it can be shipped back to NY (way better than China like the others). But really, for $300, I'm not expecting this thing to be perfect given all the awesome features it has. It can be flashed with customer firmware, ROMS, etc. Love it so far and it looks OEM. The install was a complete plug in play as this version comes with the Toyota specific ISO hookups and the steering wheel controls work with no additional adapters. Also, no parking break tap to bypass the safety either (still don't advise watching Netflix while driving).
Do you have a link to that in-dash?

different from everyone here, since everyone here loves double din, but this is what i wanted and needed to replace the deh-p860mp model, has bluetooth and usb, but also the ability to do 3 wat active network crossovers.

I've been planning on getting a new deck, have had my eyes on the NEX4100 by pioneer.
It seems the 4200 has one feature that sets its apart from its predecessor, being OBD gauges and control on the unit itself, from the factory.
Does anyone know if the iLink Maestro system on the new head units would be able to do anything on the 4th gen? Can we actually access onboard diagnostics on an older vehicle at all?
It would be pretty neat to have, although not a necessity.

Beginning stages of prepping a new radio install on my '06 Ltd.
Started with a Metra 95-8210 install kit.
I decided to install a usb port next to the screen as I always have the iPhone on a windshield mount for stuff like WAZE or as a dash cam.
No long iPhone cable dangling all over. Just about a foot.
Little bit of modifying required but in the end, I'm really pleased with the results. Cut out the hole and hot glued the back. Looks original.
And I'm using my old Alpine INE-W920HD because I prefer a rotary volume control.

Great idea! You could have the best alarm there is, and a professional scumbag could still get your radio. If they can't tell it's there at a glance, they will move on to the next target and not waste their time on yours. Back in the days when I was installing audio systems & security systems, I had a very expensive set-up, and great security in my car. I made a couple cover panels for my audio units that were installed... And I lived on a military base!
I believe it was Ben Franklin that said "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". I'd rather someone walk by my car to NOT steal what I have than depend on a security system, and have to fix broken windows, trim pieces, etc...
I don't know about you, but I tend to venture out of my relatively quiet, peaceful, & safe "hood" from time to time to go to the store, mall, sporting event, concert, etc... Not everywhere you go is going to be rainbows & unicorns. :llama:
Definitely better to be safe than sorry.

I was going to make a trim piece, because Tucson is Tucson, but figured a week wouldn't hurt. Boy was I wrong!
Worst thing was, I called the cops. They took 4 and a half hours to show on a Tuesday. Criminals rule those streets. And I'm from the New Orleans area, so, yeah, I have a security mindset after those experiences!!

I purchased the same headunit as you did.
Using this harness made it all plug and play for my steering controls connection as well as retaining my aux input (aux input will occupy AV In rca's on the headunit). That said, make sure youre wiring matches up correctly if using a plug and play harness. Ive had to re pin other harnesses in the past.
I had to grind down the underside of the headunit in order for it to better fit the dash trim piece. I figured I would rather mod the headunit than the car considering the 4Runner will most likely outlive the headunit.
FWIW, I have keft my ELM27 obd reader in for a long period of time with no issues.
Interesting. I left it in for maybe 3 days with no issues at all, and then afternoon of the fourth day I couldnt get anything from turning the key. Maybe it's my module.

You should be checking the wiring for your new headunit as well as the shut off time delay. Mine was in for months. I had actually forgot about it until my wife stepped on it with the might of the gods in hopes of releasing my parking brake. My brake did not release but the panel mount for my obd port did...still haven't fixed it yet.
AFAIK the obd reader is only powered when the vehicle is at least on ACC. Even it wasn't, I think if my obd reader was drawing enough power as to drain my battery, I would have noticed. Someone more informed about that ports capabilities might be able to provide a better idea of what it can do as far as power output.
That being said, I've killd batteries playing with new stereo installs. This has happened enough times that I've made it a habit to start my car and let it idle every so often when I'm tinkering with the radio/amp on.
I included a photo of my HU so that I dont get too far ot here.

That looks great! exactly like mine. Did you use dash kit to fill the gaps on the sides? I have one but still haven't put it in because it's not a perfect install (bolt holes don't line up to the HU).
Also, I thought I wired the HU wrong at first too, but It's been a good month or two now since I've installed and I've never had any issues after I stopped using the OBD.

Yes, I used the metra kit. I used my dremel to shave the metra pieces down. These Chinese head units are not a standard double din size and are in fact slightly larger. That's why I shaved down the head unit so that it could sit slightly further out and put less stress on the plastic trim piece. I did this on the underside of the HU so that it is not noticeable at all. The metra kit will be a nice custom fit if you do it right. I was fed up and trimmed slightly too much on one side. No problems attaching the metra kit to HU either. Not all holes will be used just line it up under (I think it was under) the OEM mounting bracket on either side.

Yeah, but it's expensive.
They are good to work with, but there is a ton of info on the Internet these days. Sites like this one and others can get you the harness and kit numbers you need along with tutorials.
But it'll all work and you'll be satisfied if you get it through them. If their prices are good for you, go for it.

I have purchased from them before. They offer excellent instructions for vehicles and do their best to make sure you have all necessary parts for an install. Unfortunately, they are just so far overpriced on some things that I cant shop there. With a little bit of research you can find everything you need at way better prices.
Just as a heads for audio gear purchases, be mindful of authorized retailers for certain brands. If you purchase from say Amazon, your manufacturer warranty is null and void. Typically "Authorized Retailers" have higher prices.

I was going to say to check the Amazon link I had in my post but it looks like they've since removed the model I bought, JY-TQ123, from that listing. Honestly I would just google that model number and see what sellers you can come up with. I paid right below $300 for mine shipped from NY.
I'm still loving mine...basically just an android tablet with hard buttons in your dash. I've already went through a few custom ROMS and they're much more capable than the stock builds (as long as you don't mind tweaking it every now and then).

I finally got my backup camera installed last week, and wired the head unit to work with my steering wheel controls. I got a lot of use out of the head unit on my recent road trip. Everything on it worked pretty well and it was very useful. (especially the offline maps) My backup camera isn't aligned great, but it was tricky to mount it in an inconspicuous way so and difficult to change the angle, so I haven't touched it since install.
I also bought the metra dash kit, but it wasn't a perfect fit so I still have to get around to making that fit.
I just installed one of the CarJoying units and LOVE it! Either I picked the wrong wires or I have a weak connection for the steering wheel controls. Which wires did you connect to the Key 1 and Key 2? Thanks.
