Well, right... the trick is to be smart and take your time, and probably not drink beer while you're doing it. I may have violated one or all of those rules. Thought I could muscle em all in there, well... one got away. lol
I just received and installed mine. I haven't had the best experience.
The installation process is pretty straight forward. However, I wanted to take a look at the instructions to make sure I was doing everything correctly. The package does not come with instructions. They do offer instructional videos linked on their product pages, but their YouTube account is experiencing difficulties. Eventually, I found their Vimeo account and was able to take a look at their installation video, but the process was annoying. Took maybe 15-20 minutes to set up.
I opted for the quick detach hooks. My dog enters from the cargo door. Theoretically, the hooks would make it easier to detach the top points and let her hop over the net to the 2nd row. These hooks do not match the rings -- meaning the hooks do not fit along the flat edge (rings are square). They can only fit inside at an angle. I checked all 4 provided rings (the installation video suggests 2 differ from the other 2 because they have a different part number). All 4 rings were the same. The hooks did not fit any of the rings.
Update: I received a message from Raingler. Apparently, the hooks sitting at an angle is by design? I don't know. I don't get it. I sent them the blow image and mentioned the hooks do not fit on any of the 4 rings, and they responded with, "Right. They angle toward the side middle mount" :shrug:

The cargo net itself seems very durable. The top attachment points or the strap adjusters would definitely fail before the net.
The stitching is ok. It's definitely not straight in a few areas. Zoom in on one of the pics at the bottom of this post -- particularly a couple of the squares and the top left edge of the net. The stitching on my Canvasback liners is a lot nicer and was the same upcharge ($20).
I am definitely not confident the top attachment points are capable of handling a lot of force, but I'm not sure Raingler could do much about that. Not really their fault. I mainly wish the hooks fit on the rings.
Second row of seats function fine with the net installed.

Hey Andrew! Sorry it was a rough go this morning with the videos. We are working very diligently on fixing the damaged Youtube channel. Youtube support is absolutely the worst I've experienced. Maybe even worse that USPS, it's a frustrating experience for us. We should have everything back up next day or two but I believe all Toyota are already up here for anybody else needing this: Raingler Nets & Barriers on Vimeo
The rear overhead bracket must orient down for the OEM coat hangar hook to sit correctly unfortunately. It's worked well for most owners and their 4Runners but there is an option as well in our forward mounting kit. It does require removing the side garnish panels (C pillar) and installing some metal anchors (minor hidden modifications) BUT, it would solve the angle concern if it proves to be one. PM me please if you have questions on that kit etc. The standard installation mount you have caps at 150#. The optional forward mount would take that up to 200#. The load is of course spread across the entire net so it is probably mute point.

No worries. It was a minor inconvenience, and definitely not Raingler's fault. YouTube's faults are very well known!
I think there are a couple of options here:
1) If the "tab" (the part that sits behind the coat hanger) were longer, you could rotate the entire bracket any direction you'd like.
2) Obviously, I know nothing of your manufacturing processes, but it's always conceivable to have the bracket shaped in a way that angles a flat edge in the direction of pull.
Obviously, in both situations, the flat edge of the bracket would have to be wider (my original complaint) so the hook could fit flush along the bracket.

The YouTube video guide is TERRIBLE. Not a 20 minute job. I got the forward mount 4-point "divider" and the top has about 8-10" gap. If you're going to go with this product, don't get the quick release clips and don't bother with "MIL-SPEC" it's a joke. I was really excited about this but was pretty let down on a few different fronts.
I agree with your disappointment with the gap between the top of the net and the ceiling of the vehicle. It's too big. Not sure what they could do to remedy that with the rear attachment points (I didn't go with the front attachment points). They are where they are. But I wish the gap wasn't as big. I purchased the net to protect my dog from ejecting out the back window if we're rear ended. She's a 70lb lab and I'm fully confident she would fly through that gap, if we're hit hard enough.
I also purchased the mil-spec net. I don't have any issues with the net itself. Not sure why you don't like it. Seems robust and durable to me. The red stitching I had added wasn't great though.
I also disagree with your disappointment with the videos (other than their YouTube hosting problems). The videos do a plenty good job of explaining the process, and I had the net installed in 20 minutes or less.

Appreciate the feedback, really do try to make the videos as helpful as possible. Pretty sure you watch the standard install for the 6 or 8 point video unfortunately. Note that the 4 point barrier is NOT a 20 minute install. It is a specialty type application net only really for certain application requiring the most forward mounting location possible right next to the 2nd row seat back. We would HIGHLY recommend the 6 or 8 points barriers as they are MUCH easier to install and also sit much higher in the standard installation position. The "forward mount" installation that is required with the 4 point is going to position the net lower at the top of the C pillar trim. The best solution to block of the top headliner area is with one of the ceiling nets. They can even carabineer together to "lock" the barrier together to the overhead section.
Again sorry that you are disappointed in it. If you want to exchange or return what you have just get ahold of us. Been building cargo nets for 20 years and we wouldn't be around if we didn't make quality gear and also do our best to make the gear better at any opportunity.
I recently received some alternative hooks for my Raingler net. I'm using the rear attachment points, and I frequently unhook the top point so my dog can jump over the net. The original hooks weren't very convenient, which I explained in an earlier post. I recently received a private message from Ed saying Raingler was sending me an alternative pair of hooks to try out.
The new hooks are significantly easier to use. I can hook the bracket with one hand with ease now. The hook is a little longer, so the top of the net isn't as tight, but hooking the bracket -- which I do every time my dog gets in/out -- is a lot easier.

I've had a Raingler net in the back of my Xterra for several years, and I loved it. When I bought the 4Runner, I knew a Raingler net would be on my mod list. Being the frugal bastard that I am, I checked eBay first, and there was a 6 point net from an Outback for about half of the regular cost. I took a chance and bought it. If it didn't fit, I figured I could sell it without losing much money. Well, it fits great, in my opinion. I will say that if it didn't fit, I wouldn't have any qualms with buying the 4Runner-specific net. Raingler makes quality gear!

If it is an option, there is a blem unit available (upper barrier net only). If you do want it, DM me so we can get the proper mounting kit for your application.

What ^ said. I too have the cargo attic as well as the rear cargo net. Quality stuff. After our last 4Runner got tboned/totalled and I noticed stuff in the back cargo area land in the back seats and front of the truck, a rear cargo net seemed like a good way to deal w flying debris.
