I got the mount in the mail a couple of days ago. Will be mounting it up when I have some vacation time in the next couple weeks. Have a couple ideas of where to mount it. Some even don't block any of the pockets, spaces, or buttons.

This is a great idea. I just ordered some ram mount parts to play with but so far haven’t loved any places for mounting. I don’t really want to drill into plastic but if I have to this might be the best spot.
I was thinking about using some heavy duty 3m tape to secure the base to the plastic. Has anyone done that and had success?

Tape doesn't stand up to the heat and eventually falls off.

Tape would be the weak link in the system. RAM mounts are super beefy but there'd be no point in using them if they are held on by tape. Just remove the panel you want to use, drill it, and use button head allen bolts and nyloc nuts behind them to hold the RAM base, tough and professional looking. Black nylon hole plugs are like 6 cents if you ever want to plug the holes...
Thanks MeefZah. I figured this might be the case. Nothin wrong with being hopeful though right. I really have no reason to be against drilling seeing as how I just installed a Front Runner Slimline II full length rack which required me to drill 4 holes in the roof. That was a bit nerve racking but couldn't be happier now.

So I totally hear what you're saying, but Gobi racks use 3M tape to hold down the front legs of their racks to the roof of the car which gets really hot.
In the end you still might be right since the rack is actually helping to put weight on the tape and keep it in place, not pulling away from it, or in the case of the ram mount, creating a lateral force against the tape.
I may try the tape and if it doesn't work then drilling it is.

Tape will simply not work. I used 50lb VHB I had to custom order and the minute the cab gets really hot from sunlight it'll lose strength.
Also the GOBI rack isn't a good comparison since it's purely the leading edge of the rack and is cosmetic, there's still 8 bolts holding that rack on.
You need to drill or use some hardware.

I've considered this one (or something like it) as well. Instead of losing a cup holder all you lose is the clock. Maybe add a USB port for charging phones so you could use one of those very short cables.
Personally I can't stand the clutter that all the devices bring to the interior. I wish they would just have the GPS be able to load GPX tracks to it or run Gaia on it.

tape has lasted a week now, but i'm not 100% on location. I might try the opposite side of the radio. Hence why I went with tape.

Fun, inappropriate joke aside. It hurts every time, even when its not my car. I used to do car audio installs and other things, and people would tell me to "Just screw it in" and it hurt every time I did it.

which base are you planning to use and where are you planning to mount it (front edge of what?). And what do you mean use with a shorter arm, are you planning on having a short arm with a ball then attaching that to the ball on the short arm?
(What you posted is an arm that goes between 2 balls, is that what you meant to post?)

I may have missed it, but I saw someone make their own RAM mount and decided to follow suit. It partially blocks an air vent, but for me was the best option to not be in the way of the steering wheel, screen, or permanently cover the clock.
