Random P0110 code

Idling in my '99 parked with the AC on yesterday and it throws a code; P0110. Decided to see if it would self-clear.

Drive to my next stop, park, CEL still on. Check the MAF connector and air filter, all good. Left it alone.

Get the car to go home and the CEL is still there, but it self-cleared on the way home.

Any thoughts?

I believe the IAT is in the maf, if cleaned recently I would check the wiring harness and make sure its not damaged. Unplugging and plugging it back in may also fix it if a loose or dirty connection.

That is exactly what I did with the vehicle off, I unplugged and re-plugged the MAF connector as well as checked the air filter to see if was especially dirty - which it wasn't.

Seems like these cars and their MAF sensors get more sensitive the older they get - I've never cleaned a MAF sensor so often in my life.

Well I have never cleaned mine and its at 260k miles. NTM I have a crappy cone filter and I do a lot of dirt road driving. I have found usually cleaning the MAF does nothing and is more a placebo than an actual fix.

I've spent more time chasing stupid MAF codes than I care to recall, including replacing the sensor itself. I think I need to pull my TB and hose it out real good (tell me you do that monthly and I'll feel better)

Before someone has an aneurysm, he PM'd me saying he had pulled into a parking lot before making this post. Calm down.

I wonder if your frequent MAF cleanings have somehow damaged it.

Know anyone with a 3rd gen 4Runner you could swap mafs with for a few days?

I haven't cleaned this MAF but once since installing a new back in March

Aneurysms aside,I use speech to text because I'm on the road a lot, but I was pulled over when I posted that last update

I made a comment long ago about how my truck tracks so perfectly down the road I can take both hands off the wheel and update facebook at 80mph.

I think you found your problem.

The Intake Air Temperature sensor is integral to the MAF, it's one of the two wires you've cleaned before. But our Toyotas are not very friendly to non Toyota/DENSO parts.

I will clean and throw the Denso MAF back in to see if that resolves the random P0110 code.

I changed it a while ago while chasing other codes that seem to have been related to a bad coil pack (P0171, P0300, P0303, etc) that have never returned since swapping the coil.

Might help to narrow things down. Sorry, I haven't dealt with this issue before.

I'm having the same issue on my manual 2000. Check engine comes on and goes off without any seeming rhyme or reason. Only thing I've done recently is install a brake controller. Nothing too technical. It only spliced into the rear brake light wire. Hard to imagine those are related.

I've cleaned my MAS once since I've owned it (3 years). Maybe I'll do that again, but I did notice my air filter was a dirty so I bought a new one. Will install that and see what happens.
