I can see a Taco cab holding this with zero problems because the bed is separate from the cab. Yet on a 4runner where the cab runs the length of the frame and has zero articulation of the body + the added weight behind the sliders possibly stressing the body in certain situations . The 4runner was designed to be held up by the frame not the body other wise it would be a uni body. Any engineers wanna chime in on this?

I'm not an engineer but Jeep has been using these type of sliders for years with no issues. I had an 03 Rubicon that had these type of sliders and beat on them hard and never had any issues. They are even stock on the Rubicon so the Jeep engineers seem to think it's a good way to go.
You have much better weight and load distribution with these as opposed to 3 tubes welded to the frame.

I am confident enough that I am ordering a set tomorrow. But this is all just my opinion.

I agree but the Jeep body has some articulation since the roof is removable...

There may be body twist, but there is no articulation between the cab and box of the Jeep as they are one part with no seam.

There is a seam between the roof and cab on a jeep that allows for body flex..

I have road raced a few uni body cars that got "stretch" marks in the roof after a hard season. Torsional strain on the body the longer the span = added stress, the 4 runner is a prime candidate especially with a sun roof.

I was looking hard at these yesterday but the guy at Sonoran Steel said they only stick out 3" from the body. I was hoping for something closer to the Shrockworks flat sliders. :frusty:

Maybe call RED and see if he can make the tubes come out further for you.

No, Randy Ellis is who makes the sliders. I believe Sonoran is just a distributor.

I had PM'd [MENTION=102026]Randy Ellis Design[/MENTION] last year and they said it would be possible - to just call for a quote on the change. I believe the standard version is 2 inches from the seam and then the tube is another 1.5 outwards (for a total of 3.5 inches from the body).

I sent him an e-mail last night. I'm hoping he can make something that sticks out as far as the Shrockworks one but with the way he attaches it.

Would save me a lot of $.

So I got this reply:

The Sleekster Rock Sliders are primarily built for protection and can be used as a step. The boxed structural member of the slider sticks out from the sheet metal of the vehicle approximately 2” and the tube approximately another 2-1/2” for about 4-1/2” total distance protruding from the body.

We can build a custom slider, but it will increase the price. The custom tube on the light bar would increase the price $150-200. In addition, the shipping would almost double and may require truck freight

Wonder if he was thinking about another email when he replied. Email back to clarify.
Shipping is based on weight and box size. He may have designed them for a certain shipping dimension. Maybe the wider bars exceed the standard size.

Anyone had these sliders installed recently? Had a pair delivered and I cannot for the life of me get a good fit on the driver side before drilling. Yet to try the passenger. Tried ratchet straps, floor jack, and vice clamps for over an hour in all combinations and no success.

Also - anybody have photos of these in action over rocks, or with a high lift?

I would like to know what's with the price increase? At some point they went from $610 to $890.

I really like these sliders, but being a formed channel and a single tube, these are less bending, less welding, less steel and smaller to package... yet somehow much more expensive than their competition. What gives?
