There is a reason why 4Runners have such a strong resale and RRs are worth 1/4 retail in just a few years.

If you DO keep the RR or go with another one, make sure you get the winch option so you can get yourself home by dragging the truck along with anchors like street trees and fire hydrants. :yo:

Just wanted to add that after regretting selling my 4th Gen V8 limited, then buying a 5.7L Tundra, then trading it in for the '16 TEP, I have absolutely no more regrets. I LOVE THIS 4RUNNER! It is an awesome vehicle and I've never been more excited about owning a vehicle. On a side note, my wife has a BMW X6, so if I want to blow the doors off other cars and drive like a mad man for a bit I just borrow her car...if its not in the shop.

Lol my first post was to [MENTION=48772]Jesse1983[/MENTION] complementing him on his mods! You gotta remember I was modding long before there was an internet. Modding a '78 Chevy or a 2016 4Runner is very similar. Same steps, same challenges, same advantages and disadvantages.

I had an 09 RRS HSE and loved it at first but began to hate it. Its got power and handles pretty good but the build quality was iffy...I love the t4r and feel the interior of my 15 TEP is way nicer than the RRS. My RRS was prefacelift so the newer inside was nicer. Get the Runner, youll love it.

4R vs Range Rover

I've had ten 4x4s since 1969, including two Land Rovers, and the very best of them all is our '16 4Runner Trail. It may not be quite as comfortable, or as sporty, as the Range Rover but it will go anywhere a Range Rover will go, and it will hold its value. As to fuel economy, I don't worry about it around town but on trips though the coastal mountains of British Columbia we have averaged 19 - 19.5 mph US, and even beaten 20 on one trip. That is not at all bad for a rig that runs close to 2.5 tons while carrying two hefty people, and loaded for a trip. - Ted

It might be a little silly, but I'm also a bit concerned about the gas mileage/range of the 4R (spent a couple hours looking up aux fuel tanks last night).

With the RRS, I can make it up to Tahoe, drive around up there for a weekend, and make it 1/3 of the way back on a single tank. Despite my heavy right foot, I somehow manage to get 18mpg combined and 21-22mpg on the highway.

I've found that 20mpg is easy on relatively flat interstate with the LE. Maybe you'll see something different near Tahoe?

Or you could gas up once at your destination. It's not like the cost is that different.

Edit: Back on topic you wont go wrong with either, depends on your long term plans with the truck and how much value you place on certain factory options to which trim makes more sense. Both are great options, even our lowly SR5 brethren made good choices

OP, have fun with your choice. The 4Runner is NOT a LR but it is much more dependable and reliable.

I cross shopped the two brands. Two things are going to be glaringly obvious and need serious consideration when and if you decide to make the switch.

1) You are giving up a lot of luxury. I don't care what the 4R Limited comes with. My general take is that the inside of a RR is akin to jewelry from Cartier where the inside of the Toyota is more "He went to Jared."

2) Power and perceived feel. Again, you will be giving up quite a bit here. I live in Summerlin, NV where every third vehicle is a RR and I can tell you that they absolutely trounce my 4Runner no matter how much I mash on the skinny pedal.

All this said I'm in love with my 4Runner. I've become a far more compliant driver. Pretty much have to be. I came from a Tundra with the 5.7.

I do like that we can mod our vehicles and maintain a comfortable DD. I'm running a complete OME setup so I may be stiffer than a few other fellas here but I really do love the ride. Like others have mentioned already. Limited models require a bit more modding but it's not insurmountable. I went with a TE Premium as further down the road I want the 4Runner to take up the third spot in the garage and moves from a DD to a dedicated weekend toy.

Good luck in your endeavor. I would seriously consider my two points as honestly for me, those are the two that could get you hung up or not liking your choice.

The OP's inquiry is really an automotive Cliff, Shag, or Marry? Is he ready to marry a 4R? Because that's what it is. The RR is either shag, or if you've paid for a few out of warranty repairs, cliff.

Speaking of... the OP should probably be warned that the LE stock wheels are trouble; best ordering others from the dealer or aftermarket wheels for a new set of tires.

Unless it's only on-road performance he craves.

I drove a Range Rover sport last week, gobs of power and stiff suspension compared to the discovery 4. I believe they do make a Johnson rod lift for it to keep the ride height in off road mode permanently.

What I noticed immediately was that it felt like I was in a cockpit in a bad way. When you get in a 4runner you'll notice how much more leg and shoulder room you have. I really feel those sport rovers are meant for short stature individuals.

The power difference will be noticeable. You can help the seat of the pants feel with a sprint booster. Like others said the Lexus GX460 may be a better comparison in terms of features and appointments, but I'm totally happy with my Limited and there's much more aftermarket support for bumpers, sliders etc for the 4runner.

Either way driving the Toyota's instills a sense of driver confidence and unhurried travel, whereas the Range Rover sport felt anxious to me in the same way my brothers Hemi powered Jeep does, it's hard to just sit back and relax in those vehicles.

As a follow up, that's not to say the 4runner is slow, I just don't feel an urgency to push on the throttle like I do in some vehicles.. 4runner is plenty quick for me when I need it to be, and all the other attributes outweigh the powerplant output (such as the fact that the power train is tried and true and stupid dependable).
