Rant Thread - Motor

What's the rush

No need to speed, or accelerate fast. Oh BTW, I am at 20.8 MPG and climbing.

Enjoy the ride, roll all the window's down (that means the back window too). I love flexing that.

I can tell everyone behind me is jealous.

Let them pass. :thumb3:

1) "sport" mode group. Its not Sport Mode and does nothing besides lets you SHIFT within your choosing- S stands for Shift

~

I believe it is neither SHIFT, or SPORT but is actually sequential mode. I could be wrong though, just what I have heard.

A couple LOLs in this group:

1) "sport" mode group. Its not Sport Mode and does nothing besides lets you SHIFT within your choosing- S stands for Shift

2) Should have gotten this or that or whiny group: I stated specifically it was a rant thread. Ive had this longer than most of you as mine is a 14, plus I have 100k+ on it. Id say I'm qualified to make a rant. Someday's it just gets to ya (like today) I do a lot of miles off road as well, which its pros are greater than its cons. But like I said...somedays~

Idk if that's directed at my comment, but Pedal Commander has a ECO, City, Sport, and Sport+ mode. Not talking about the Shift.

For all that is Holy....Why on earth does this damn motor act like its a freaking turbo- What do you mean you ask: Well, you have to constantly "spool-up" to get the damn thing to react. WORST PART, its NOT a turbo...so there is NOOO Payoff! Jeezes, this is the sloggiest motor/pedal connection I have ever experienced. I've OWNED over 40 vehicles and this one takes the cake. Oh, lets not stop there.....Once you do get the power on, it last exactly .005 seconds.

Real Life Scenarios all of you owners know:

Me: oh hey, traffic isn't moving in my lane, but the lane next to me is flying.
Truck: ta do ta do ta do...huh?
Me: Hey, I see an opening, but since we are only going 5 mph and the other lane is going around 20-25, we are going to have to use the skinny pedal.
Truck: ta do ta do ta do...huh?
Me: SMASHING THE GAS
Truck: ta do ta do ta do...huh?
Me: COME ON ALREADY, OUR HOLE IS CLOSING
Truck: mmmmmmMMMMMMM
Me: JEEZUS MAN! (I have now successfully changed lanes, but the hole has closed and a person is right on my ass
Truck: MMmmmmm....ta do ta do ta do
Me: SMASHING PEDAL AGAIN (just to try to catch back up with traffic in speedy lane)
Truck: ta do ta do ta do...huh?
Me: AAAARRGGGG!!!!! (literally screaming out loud like a 10yr old)

*This is a dramatization...but, its barley one!

PS....I refuse to pay money for a Pedal Commander, as my foot should be a good enough commander for free

So you mod the hell out of your vehicle, then complain about performance, then say you won't mod the thing you are complaining about.

Rant Score: .1/10.

I don't know, all the Toyotas we have owned since the 2011 Camry have had a funky gas pedal feel, my 2018 4runner is by for the best out of all of them, power comes on smooth and it has decent power imho, I was coming from a full size truck, and drive semi for a living, so anything that takes less than a mile or so to 60 feels good to me.

On a side note, are you going up to Gilbert anytime this fall, we are planning a trip up around the end of September and would love to see some other Toyota guys up there, it will be me in the 4runner, my buddy in his Tacoma TRD Pro, and my cousin just got a 100 series landie with dif lock and rear locker, we are excited to go trash that thing!

In other markets they come with a built in power mode that's both a pedal calibration change and a shift logic change. I've always been curious if the functionality was built into the ECU and could be accessed.

probably wont see this in our country, thanks to the ****faces who decided to sue Toyota who happend to be american

I drove a Prius for about 4 years(65 mile roundtrip commute at the time)...so this doesn't seem so bad. Its all about perspective.

I've always assumed it was for offroad driving? I don't think a super agressive throttle tip in would be good for that.

AHAHHHAHHAAAAA! Ok, there bud. "Mod the hell" ...lol

I bet my 4runner weighs less then yours MODDED THE HELL OUT OF. I've done all the necessary mod to keep this thing on the road daily and still be able to hit trails that I wouldn't do with a stock one. (IE Protection, stability and Recovery) and nothing more.

Just like you can chime into a purposed rant thread and complain about the rant, I can do what I want to my truck and still point out one if its glaring annoyances. Also, folks that know me realize this is in good fun, as I obviously luv my 5th gen...but sheesh that fly by wire some days~

I don’t mind the sluggishness of the 4Runner... but it’s hard to understand coming from a V6 RAV4, which is a rocket ship with amazing throttle response. I know the 4Runner is heavier, but the difference is really astounding.

Wife says I gotta sell the RAV... too many cars in the driveway - sad - best car I’ve ever had - 200k and still running strong - will easily do 100+ mph at 10,000 feet up the hill to the Eisenhower Tunnel in Colorado

...the 1.5 second delay in response...

It's no rocket ship for sure, but my experience is maybe a split second lag in response when I mash the gas to pass someone on the highway. A full second and a half response lag seems like something is wrong.

You clearly didn't understand me at all. You modified the 4runner to make it suit your style, except you won't modify this one thing because of some nonsense about your foot being the commander or something. It negated your entire rant and made it sound stupid, therefore the .1 rating. I know it's upsetting as my rant ratings are OCT(Officially Certified by Toyota) meaning if I had given you a better rating the Toyota engineers would have gotten right on adding a 400hp twin turbo V6 with 8 speed transmission in next years 4runner . Unfortunately you failed and we will have to live with the gen5 engine for the next 20-30 years.

You're funny

Your troll rating are > mine...and I keep falling for it!

You win, I'm dumb~
