“Raptor” amber led mod writup (06-09 grill)

I had seen several posts on the raptor led mod with a big variety of how people put everything together both with the location on the grill as well as the model year of 4Runner. This writup is for the 06-09 grill as I could not find a writup for those model years. The supplies you will need are as follows:

50 ft of 18 gauge red/black wire (Amazon)

Amber led strip 2x (Grand General 77650 Amber Thin Line 6-LED Marker and Clearance Sealed Light)

Fuse tap for my application (mini fuse APM)

Wire loom (25ft - 1/8 inch Flexo PET Expandable Braided Sleeving – Black – Alex Tech Braided Cable Sleeve)

Switch (Cllena Toyota Blue LED Push Switch with Connector Wire Kit Laser ( Driving Lights)

Useful tools:
Soldering iron
Heat shrink tubing
Tessa tape

Things to note: I had seen this mod where people had tied it to either the daytime running lights or marker lights for night time but I didn’t like this option. I wanted to be able to use it whenever the car was on but still have the ability to turn them off with a factory looking switch. Also the wire loom I used does fit but I think if I didn’t it over I would have gotten 1/4 inch tubing instead.

I currently have wired everything up for install and will add more information tomorrow when I put it all together

Nice. I’ll be following your progress too, as I’ve been contemplating doing this for awhile to my’04. I was thinking I’d tap into the marker lights on my ‘06 headlights, but as you mentioned, it would be nice have the option of a switch if I didn’t want them on for some reason.

Appreciate the replies! I just finished everything up and am going to post the rest of my writup. I have to give credit that I got the idea after I saw Whytey's '07 V8 SE Build where he did the same thing (also Simple yours looks really good!)

Install writup

I just finished everything up and thought I would share the results. I like the look and the fact that I can turn them off is really helpful. First off I began by securing the leds to the grill. I did this with black zip ties as they were the easiest to work with. Next I routed my wire harness I made up the side of the grill and down behind the hood insulation. Then ran the ground to chassis and the positive into the cabin through the firewall. Next I took the other wire harness I made and ran the wires for illumination to the 115 volt outlet and then ran my hot wire to the fuse panel where I tapped the cigarette lighter fuse and then used a 7.5 amp fuse for the new circuit. Next I ran the other wire that came off the switch to the power wire I brought through the firewall. Next I reinstalled everything and am enjoying my new mod! Will be posting night pics once I get the chance later today

So this is off-topic, but can you post some photos of the cut off/review of those headlights you're running.

They look sharp, but I want nothing to do with them if they're unsafe for other drivers on the road.

hey just to save you the headache I would not buy these headlights. The cutoff line is pretty decent. I adjusted them down so that the light output is lower. and they look great. In regards to quality though I have not been impressed. These started leaking pretty soon after I bought them and after roughly a tube of black caulk on the passenger side and a little on the driver side they will still fog up a little if it has rained a lot. also after only a year the rear headlight boots have started to dry-rot so i may be replacing them later this year.
