Any board members ever own a Ford Raptor?

I saw recently that Ford will be releasing the next gen Raptor next fall as part of its 2017 model year. Everything I've read about it sounds pretty awesome.

I was just curious if any T4R folks have ever owned an earlier model and, if so, how you'd rate it?

Are they releasing a 2016 model in the fall? Not a 2017 model, right.

Do you own a gas station? This vehicle will cost a small fortune to own in gas mileage, especially when the price of gas surges up again.

The Ford Raptor is based on the F150 body and frame, with mods to the suspension. It doesn't fit well in my garage.

Ford says it's strengths lay in high speed desert and off-road runs due to it's rugged suspension. This isn't something I need.

Due to the gas mileage I would avoid the Land Cruiser, the Jeep GC with the 5.7L Hemi V8 or the Jeep GC SRT with a 475 hp 6.4L Hemi engine.

My local dealer has a '14 for $62k. I would HOPE that you know what you're getting when buying! And my on-board mpg calculator says 15.8 uncorrected (33" and 3" lift).

I had a 2010 with the 5.4. Was great off road for a stock truck and rode like a Caddy on the street. The only issue is its a FORD. Cheap plastic, cheap leather, and the idea that its good enough when they release a new vehicle. The build quality of the T4R is a lot better than the Raptor.

I said next fall---as in fall of 2016---for the release of the 2017 model year.

I appreciate the input, it's exactly the kind of discussion I was hoping for. I must say, though, the 4Runner's gas mileage isn't exactly blowing the Raptor out of the water...

LOL...I thinking the exact same thing as I was reading all of the posts criticizing the Raptor's fuel economy. I was thinking "Am I just driving mine wrong or do these guys have some kind of special edition, hybrid-4Runner?" Mine is pretty danged thirsty (and has significantly less power than the Raptor).
 
I've work for Ford for 18 years. If I could afford a raptor Id own one. I've done a lot of work on them, and spent some time in them. I don't think their build quality is any worse than any other manufacture other than some euro exotic stuff.
They are fun to drive on dirt roads, washes etc. 6.2's run good, seem to move it along ok. Put the Roush huffer on it and it gets really fun.

My .02$ =. I'd own one.
 
I believe a forum member traded in his Raptor for the 4R because his driving situation would only get him 9MPG on it, but don't take my word for it since I don't own one.

5.4? interesting I only though Raptor came in 6.2. Anyway I couldnt disagree more with you on almost every point. Ford trucks have a great reputation (cars not so much) my Lariat leather was far superior to the softex crap in my 11 4R and unless you are getting an STX the fit and finish, especially Lariat and Platinum, are pretty damn nice. Plastic? have you seen the Tundra lately?

OP it is a very solid truck but like others have said.... start earning points on your fuel perks!

With all that said I do love my 4runner more!

the 5.4 was an optional engine in the first model year, however the 6.2 is now discontinued for F150 use, including the Raptor. the 3.5L Ecoboost will be replacing it rated at somewhere near 500 Horsepower and I'm sure torque well north of that as well. in addition its getting Ford's new 10 speed automatic transmission and an aluminum body. i don't see why 20mpg wouldn't be possible. depending on pricing and available options, the 4Runners days may be numbered for a 18 or 19 raptor
 
My friend has one. If one is buying a Raptor MPGs should not even factor into the equation. It is nice, but cheap run of the mill Ford plastics on the inside as mentioned earlier.

Will be interesting to see how truck folks accept the stigma of driving a V-6 in a Raptor no matter how much HP the Ecoboost delivers.
 
One of my Nephews has one. It doesn't do much for me, but he likes it. Don't drive it like Ford implies it can be used, (high-speed off-road driving) or you might end up with a bent frame.
